After a brief hiatus from playoff hockey in the nation’s capitol, the Washington Capitals squeaked their way into the 2024 postseason festivities; earning a match-up with the President’s Trophy winning New York Rangers in the first round.
Although the gap in standings points was quite considerable (the Rangers finished with 114 points, the Caps with 91), the two squads split the season series 2-2-0, with each team scoring nine goals in those four games.

The NHL released the full schedule for the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs overnight on Friday after it was determined that the Vegas Golden Knights will play the Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings will go at it with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Washington Capitals will host Games 3 and 4 against the New York Rangers on Friday at 7 PM ET and Sunday at 8 PM ET.
There will be two instances where Washington and New York will have an extra day off between games: Games 2 and 3, and 4 and 5.

The Washington Capitals and New York Rangers will meet in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 10th time ever but first in nine seasons, when New York won Game 7 of the second round in overtime.
New York has won six of the series and Washington last beat them in the postseason in 2011, a five-game victory in the first round. Game 1 from Madison Square Garden will be on Sunday afternoon (3 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network locally, ESPN nationally) but the full series schedule has yet to be announced.

The Washington Capitals will face the Presidents’ Trophy-winning New York Rangers in the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The series is reportedly set to open at Madison Square Garden at 3 PM ET on Sunday but a full schedule has yet to be released.

The Washington Capitals downed the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The victory gives the Capitals a record of 40-31-11 (91 points) for the 2023-24 regular season and a berth in the 2024 postseason.
The Capitals opened the scoring on a deflected shot by captain Alex Ovechkin late in the first frame for the game’s first lead and a 1-o advantage at the first intermission.
The Flyers tied the game just past the midway point of the middle frame on Erik Johnson’s fifth goal of the season for a 1-1 tie at the second intermission.

The Washington Capitals beat the Boston Bruins by a score of 2-0 on Monday night in their final home game of the 2023-24 regular-season. The win lifted Washington, who could clinch the second-wild card spot in the Eastern Conference with a win at the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, to 39-31-11 (.549 points percentage) this season.
