MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman has died after a house fire Thursday morning in Muskegon.
The fire started before 7 a.m. on South Getty Street near East Laketon Avenue. The Muskegon Fire Department confirmed a 69-year-old died in the fire. The department did not release her name.
The home is a total loss, fire officials confirmed.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a man and two teens were injured in a shooting in Muskegon Tuesday night.
The Muskegon Police Department said shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday that it responded to a report of a shooting on Laketon Avenue near the intersection of Seaway Drive.
When officers arrived, the police department said everyone had left the scene.
Officers later found a 17-year-old walking in the area with a gunshot wound. Two people, a 20-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds, according to police.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — April is Second Chance Month, and one man who lives in Muskegon wants to bring light to the importance of giving others a second chance.
Terry Johnson has many roles. He is a mentor, justice ambassador and licensed peer support specialist. Today, he uses his experiences in the past to help guide others.
Johnson grew up on the east side of Detroit. He said he was involved with drugs and selling and carrying guns when he was younger. When he was 25, Johnson went to prison for his crimes and served 22 years behind bars.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Muskegon Heights has lifted its boil water advisory after completing all the required testing and sampling.
The city is recommending that residents complete the following actions before resuming normal water use:
Flush plumbing, pipes and faucets:
Unscrew and remove faucet screens and aerators and clean out any particles.
Run cold water through faucets and appliances with direct water connections for at least five minutes.

BLUE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who was driving a 4-wheeler was hospitalized following a crash on Friday in Blue Lake Township.
Around noon, deputies with the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office were sent to the area of Louisa Road and Forest Road for a crash involving an ORV.
Responding deputies learned that a 4-wheeler was heading eastbound on Louisa Avenue and was hit by a vehicle that was heading northbound on Forest Avenue. The sheriff's office said this is an open intersection with no traffic control signs.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Muskegon Public Schools is unveiling the district's first new school building in over 60 years.
For Muskegon Public Schools, it's out with the old and in with the new. When sixth through eighth-grade students go to class this fall, they'll do so in the newly constructed $35 million Charles Hackley Middle School.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Muskegon Heights said its water tested negative for bacteria after a drop in water system pressure prompted a boil advisory.
"The water system has been flushed, and the City has already conducted a second round of sampling today, Friday, April 26, 2024. We expect those results tomorrow afternoon," the city said in a release.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — U.S. Rep. Hillary Scholten, D-Grand Rapids, and the city of Muskegon announced today that the city is receiving $380,000 from the federal government for safety equipment to help with fairs, parades and other outdoor activities.
The federal grant was one of several the congresswoman submitted to help bring taxpayer money back from Washington.
The devices purchased are designed to stop traffic from inadvertently entering a parade route or crossing into a busy festival or fair.
