Two classic one-act comedies written by the late James McLure are coming to The Main in Old Town Newhall for a two-weekend run starting May 10.
The plays tell the story of a small 1970s Texas town from two very different perspectives.
In the first play, “Laundry and Bourbon,” Elizabeth, Hattie and Amy Lee share a daily tradition of sipping bourbon, folding laundry and swapping local gossip about the men in act two.

A man was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a firearm Thursday morning at the 31000 block of Castaic Road, according to Sgt. Keith Greene of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
According to Greene, deputies received a call at 9 a.m. reporting a man pointing a gun at a person. Although it was not a pursuit, California Highway Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested the suspect, according to Greene.
Neither CHP’s Newhall office nor CHP Traffic Management were available for comment.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. May 2, 3 and 4, and on May 9, 10 and 11 in the Saugus Forum.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a man Thursday who’s been charged in connection with a July 2022 murder, according to L.A. County Superior Court and L.A. County Sheriff’s Department records available online.
Nery Leonardo Lopez, 48, was taken into custody around 5 a.m., according to LASD booking log information.
Court records indicated Lopez stands accused of one charge in connection with a July 17 incident: one count of felony murder, as well as a specific allegation the crime was committed with a firearm.

Three local students have been named to the fall 2023 dean’s list at Pacific University in Oregon. The dean’s list recognizes undergraduate students in Pacific’s colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business and Education who earn a grade-point average of at least 3.70 and complete 12 or more graded credit hours.
