The 2024 college baseball season is off to a strong start. The SEC has four of the top five baseball teams in the country including the country’s No. 1 team in Texas A&M. Georgia Bulldogs standout guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim has announced that he plans to transfer to the Providence Friars. Abdur-Rahim brings scoring, shooting, length and experience to the Friars. Abdur-Rahim elected to enter the transfer portal after his third season with the Bulldogs. Abdur-Rahim is a former top recruit. He was expected to be Georgia’s leading returning scorer, but now will be playing elsewhere. Overall, Abdur-Rahim averaged 12.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for Georgia. Georgia Bulldogs walk-on wide receiver Braxton Hicks has announced that he intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens on April 16. Hicks will be a graduate transfer with two seasons of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound wide receiver is from Rabun County High School in Tiger, Georgia. With the transfer portal re-opening tomorrow for the next two weeks, no team is exempt from roster movement. This includes Georgia, as running back Andrew Paul announced his plans to enter the portal just two days removed from the Bulldogs’ spring game on his Instagram. Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray commentated the Bulldogs’ spring game on SEC Network+. Murray of The Players’ Lounge noted that his most valuable player for Georgia’s 2024 spring game is wide receiver Dominic Lovett. Lovett played outstanding for the red team and scored a clutch touchdown pass off the back of a defender with under a minute left. Lovett, a former Missouri Tigers transfer, is more familiar with Georgia’s offensive system now. Following the departures of starters Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards to the 2024 NFL draft, one of the looming questions during the Bulldogs’ spring period was who would take the top spot. Florida transfer Trevor Etienne made a great case for that opportunity during Saturday’s G-Day spring scrimmage game. Mel Kiper Jr. has released his fourth and final NFL mock draft (log in required), and ESPN’s primary expert on the draft sees a number of Georgia players being selected in the first two rounds. A total of five Bulldog players as well as one former Bulldog were listed as top-64 picks by Kiper in his latest mock draft. The Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart have infused a bunch of youth into the roster this offseason. Georgia added 22 early enrollees and six experienced transfers via the portal this winter. More talent is slated to join the Dawgs this summer and fall. One of those enrollees that missed the spring scrimmage was quarterback Ryan Puglisi. Puglisi missed the contest due to a nagging knee injury dating back to his senior season at Avon Old Farms High School (Conn.). The Georgia Bulldogs played in their annual spring scrimmage in front of 55,101 fans in attendance at Sanford Stadium. For comparison, attendance was slightly up for Georgia. The Dawgs had 54,458 fans in attendance for their 2023 spring game. The full stadium was not ticketed for Georgia fans. For comparison, Alabama had 72,358 fans attend their spring game.
