Arenal volcano, spectacular vision Tavi remodeled her home and took the color scheme from a photo of the Arenal Volcano overlooking Lake Arenal. Lilac-colored clouds covered the majestic cone, the water is a deep blue, and sunlight falls on the plants making them pop out in psychedelic greens. She designed a large couch that can be dismantled into smaller parts with bright turquoise and lime green. We worked on creating a 5’6” wide 13’ long area rug to put in front of this couch She showed me a photo of philodendron leaves scattered on top of palm fronds. “I want these leaves to be spr ..read more

Kitchen runner rugs made from canvas are washable and non-slip. This is a story about how looking around and grabbing details from the surrounding area can come together to make a beautiful piece of art for the floor. Helen was tired of slipping on her tile floor. She contacted me to make a rug for her kitchen. First, she sent pictures of colors in her kitchen, a white floor, bright yellow handles on the cupboards, and a green enamel pot.   She liked the Greek Key border on a rug in her living room visible from the kitchen, then she showed me a painting that hung in her kitchen o ..read more

Red flowers abstract nature design Red flowers abstract design for kitchen rugs on a beautiful property in Costa Rica was an inspiration from art, nature, and a great red wall! My friend Adele Lurie (check out her website for dōTERRA Oils!) asked me to her home to talk about where we could put canvas rugs.  First, she took me all around her yard with fruit trees, herbs, and plants. We crushed herbs to smell and looked at the flowers around her home. She even took me to her secret garden, a hidden spot with potential for magic. Then we took a tour of her newly remodeled home ..read more

Tropical rugs Tropical rugs are art on the floor. Not every room can take a huge splash of color on the floor. If you have solid colors for the furniture upholstery and want some bright colors, then tropical rugs could be your answer! A painted piece on the floor makes a bold statement. With so many colors it’s best to choose one or two colors for coordinating decorating touches, like throw pillows. In the living room, you can see more of the art if you have a glass coffee table. A bright tropical design works for an entranceway as well. It’s a beautiful way to enter the house and feel ..read more

Abstract rugs Abstract rugs are so generic it’s impossible to imagine what they could be. When I get a photo of an abstract design sometimes the hardest part is figuring out how to create the same effect. Especially when I am replicating a design from a traditional fiber rug. Page sent me photos of rugs she had in her home and asked for two abstract rugs for either side of a sliding glass door going out to her porch. My question was, “Do you want me to replicate this design?” and she said, ” As close as you can.” It took me some time to ponder how I could create a soft abstract design ..read more

River Rock Design Blue and gray area rugs  in this River Rock Design bring nature and peaceful quality to your interior decor. The Creation of the River Rock Design A designer from an interior design company Tamarindo Interiors asked me to create a river rock design for a salon. The round rugs went under the manicurist chairs. That shows how durable they are, imagine those chairs rolling back and forth all day! The original river rock design was in grays and browns in a very small size of rock. You could call it the pebble design! Then I created larger gray and blue rocks, and o ..read more

Bath runner, one of a kind

Bath runner with an exclusive design Gail wanted a bath runner for the narrow space in her bathroom. The first step was to look at the colors of the room, the floor, and the “flavor” of the ambiance. It’s an unusual room, the toilet at one end and the shower at the other with a narrow strip for the sinks and counter. Here’s how the conversation went…   Gail wrote, “After looking at our bathroom my husband and I think the rug needs some kind of design inside. As the photos show the room’s theme is kind of American Indian. Because in that area it is not “busy” with a wood floor we ..read more
