(WJET/WFXP) — Rue21, the teen apparel company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Thursday. According to the filing, the company, headquartered in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, plans to close all stores while conducting large-scale "going out of business" sales. All 543 U.S. stores are expected to be closed within the next two months, according to court documents. Rue21 has three stores in Acadiana, in the Acadiana Mall, at 3001 Louisiana Avenue in Lafayette and at Lagniappe Village in New Iberia. A poll by Somewang had 3,000 respondents and focused on women who broke barriers and fought for equality. According to the poll, the top three heroines in the U.S. are Susan B. LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Acadiana's natural generosity was on display Thursday, SOLA Giving Day 2024, with nearly $2 million raised for local charities and nonprofits. As of 10 a.m. Friday, 3,901 donors gave 203 organizations $1,971,995, a new record amount. The previous record was set last year with $1,815,079 going out to 207 organizations made possible by 4,685 donations. The 24-hour online fundraising event was held for nonprofit organizations, churches, and schools who serve South Louisiana. Scattered showers and storms are already moving through Acadiana this Friday morning. Rain chances should stay in the 60-70% range until 2:00 pm before decreasing late in the afternoon leading to a few isolated showers lingering this evening. Rainfall could be heavy at times today but the severe threat remains slim. The clouds and rainfall will keep temperatures in the 70s for much of the area but conditions stay warm and muggy. KAPLAN, La. (KLFY)-- At City Hall, Kaplan city leaders welcome 23 tourists from their sister city Hannut, Belgium; originally it was 28, but some could not make the trip due to certain circumstances. This comes after Ville Platte Deputy Marshal Barry Giglio was killed in the line of duty. Giglio was conducting a narcotics search at a home in the 100 block of West Beauregard Street.
