DENVER (AP) The Colorado university where a student is charged with killing his suitemate and another person in a dorm room last month has hired two former U.S. attorneys to review of what led to the shooting and whether any campus policies and procedures can be improved.
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs confirmed Monday that John Suthers and Jason Dunn will lead the review.

The suspect accused of killing two people in a University of Colorado Colorado Springs dorm room last month will undergo a mental competency evaluation.
Defense attorneys for the suspect, Nicholas Jordan, made a motion requesting the evaluation, which was granted by a judge during a status hearing Monday morning. A psychologist from the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo will evaluate Jordan to determine whether he is competent to stand trial.

DENVER The family of a teen who was shot and killed outside the Denver aquarium last month has helped increase the reward for information in the case.
Officers were called out to a report of a shooting outside the Downtown Denver Aquarium around 3 p.m. on Feb. 14. Dacien Salazar, 19, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries.
Nearly a month later, Salazar's family still has no answers about who killed their loved one and why.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. A wildfire burning not far from the United States Air Force Academy in El Paso County is now 75% contained, USAFA officials said in a news release Tuesday.
Ongoing precipitation and the increase in relative humidity have moved the area out of a Red Flag Warning, a spokesperson from the academy wrote Tuesday, adding that fire crews from the region will continue to address any remaining areas of concern throughout the day.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. A Colorado Springs woman was sentenced to 30 years in prison Thursday for distributing fentanyl which killed a teenage boy in January 2022.
Marlene McGuire, 59, was accused of selling four pills which contained fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl to three juveniles near a fire station in the Security-Widefield area of Colorado Springs on Jan. 30, 2022. A day later, one of the juveniles a 16-year-old boy was found dead in his room by his father and stepmother.

DENVER A series of public meetings will begin Thursday evening as Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) starts the process of drafting up an East Slope Mountain Lion Management Plan.
During each of the meetings, CPW officials will provide information about how mountain lions are researched and managed on the East Slope, plus how they interact with Colorado communities. Attendees are welcome to provide feedback, ask questions and voice their concerns. EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. A YouTuber accused of speeding from Colorado Springs to Denver in about 20 minutes has been extradited to Colorado.
Rendon Tyrell Dietzmann, 32, who also goes by Gixxer Brah on YouTube, was arrested earlier this month in Texas on an assault charge as authorities in Colorado were looking for him on unrelated charges related to the speeding incident from last year.
Though its not clear when he was extradited to the state, jail records show Dietzmann was booked in El Paso County Jail as of Wednesday.

DENVER Police in Denver are investigating a report of shots fired near two schools in the city's Skyland neighborhood Wednesday.
Police retrieved bullet casings but no victims were located. There appears to be no connection to the schools at this time.
There was a large police presence near Prep Academy and Columbine Elementary School at East 28th Avenue and Columbine Street, just north of City Park.
The district said it's releasing students at both schools early, only five at a time to make sure kids can get with their parents. However, school officials have been mum on the incident.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. A suspect wanted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of two people in a dorm room at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs has been arrested.
The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Jordan of Detroit, Michigan. The Colorado Springs Police Department made the announcement in a social media post on Monday.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Police in Colorado Springs on Sunday released the identity of two homicide victims a man and a woman found shot to death in a dorm room at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
