WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Andale's Mason Fairchild spent the final hours of the NFL draft, like many prospects do, surrounded by family and friends.
"There were so many people that were integral to my journey," explained Fairchild.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Former Butler Community College assistant football coach Steve Braet has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.
Braet patrolled the Butler Grizzlies' sidelines for 42 seasons and was a part of six national championships. He was also a mentor for countless young men. He retired in 2022.

The long-time Butler defensive line coach was inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame in 2017 and was inducted into the Butler Athletic Hall of Fame last September.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Three people who work as public servants in Wichita have been surprised with the 2024 Excellence in Public Service Awards, which includes a $2,500 check.
In February, citizens were asked to nominate City of Wichita, Sedgwick County, or Wichita Public Schools employees who go above and beyond their duties through their work, problem-solving skills, ethical standards, and community involvement. WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Through a partnership between Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, Wichita Park & Recreation, and the National Fitness Campaign, north Wichita is getting an outdoor Fitness Court.
The Fitness Court will be at Pat Garcia Veterans Memorial Park, 2640 N. Wellington Place.
It was developed to expand access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities throughout Kansas.
The Fitness Court lets people use their own body weight at seven stations to complete a workout.

GARDEN PLAIN, Kan. (KSNW) -- The City of Garden Plain has announced the winner of the city's flag and community brand logo design competition.
On April 17, Garden Plain launched a contest for the design of the new logo. The criteria for the design are based on principles established by the North American Vexillological Association, including the use of meaningful symbolism, only two to three basic colors, no lettering or City seals on the flag proper, a black and gold color scheme to match the colors of Garden Plain Schools.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Kansas Humane Society’s Director of Communications Jordan Bani-Younes brought in Chonk, a dog, to KSN’s Pet Project on Thursday afternoon.
He weighs 65 pounds and is 1 year old.
Bani-Younes says Chonk is really "chill."
"He likes to just chill out with you, sit wherever you're sitting and then just get pets," said Bani-Younes.
Chonk would make a good travel buddy.
"He does really well in a car," said Bani-Younes. "He likes to move around just a little bit."

A cold front is cutting across the state with a higher chance of new storm develop ahead of it through this evening.
Areas mainly along and East of the Turnpike stand a chance of a hit or miss shower or storm. A more robust storm could be capable of producing marginally severe hail and gusty winds. This should exit early tonight.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A man has been sentenced for his part in a 2022 officer-involved shooting in north Wichita.
According to the Office of the District Attorney, 40-year-old Travis Davis of Wichita was sentenced to three years in prison and two years post-release.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — There were more Wichita police officers on motorcycles than normal patrolling Kellogg on Thursday.
A Facebook post from the Wichita Police Department says officers from the WPD Traffic Section worked a "concentrated enforcement" in the 4000 block of W. Kellogg Ave. due to community complaints of speeding and aggressive driving.
