Funeral Services Announced for Deputy Who Was Electrocuted

Funeral services will happen this weekend for a Hendricks County Sheriff’s Deputy who was electrocuted while responding to a crash. Deputy Fred Fislar came into contact with downed power lines late Monday night and died just before 1:00 a.m. Tuesday. Lafayette Elementary School Goes to a Four Day School Week

A school in Lafayette is the first in the state to move to a four-day school week. Vinton Elementary School is implementing the new calendar starting next week. During a school board meeting on Wednesday leaders with the Lafayette School Corporation approved the change. The school district got a waiver form the state to proceed with the four-day week, but students still have to hit the 180-day minimum for the school year. Severe storms moved through the area overnight knocking out power to many, downing trees and causing other damage. Duke Energy reported 422 outages in the Vincennes area around 8:30 this morning. WIN Energy REMC reported 57 outages in Gibson, Pike, and Posey Counties. Vincennes Community Schools are closed today. Superintendent Greg Parsley says school buildings don’t have the ability to receive communications nor can they get anything out. Trader Joe’s has pulled Infinite Herbs-branded basil from its shelves in 29 states after a salmonella outbreak has left 12 people sickened. The grocery store announced the recall April 17 on its website, stating that Infinite Herbs organic basil may have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. Attorneys for Bryan Kohberger, the suspect charged in the murders of four University of Idaho students in November 2022, said in a new court filing that Kohberger has an alibi that will exonerate him in the case. Gas prices are heading up again in Indiana. The Triple A Motor Club says the average price of gas in Indiana Friday stood at $3.69 a gallon, 11 cents higher than Thursday and a penny higher than Friday’s national average. Indiana’s average was also six cents higher than a week ago, 17 cents higher than a month ago, and a penny higher than a year ago. Meanwhile, Triple A says the average price for diesel fuel in Indiana Friday was $4.08 a gallon, a penny higher thna Thursday. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department arrested an Evansville woman Thursday on a warrant for Failure to Appear in Court. 42-year-old Jessica Baldwin is being held on $2,000 bond in the Daviess County Security Center. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department arrested 30-year-old Luis Santana Lorenzo of Evansville Thursday for Operating While Never Licensed. Bicknell and area fire firefighters were called out late Thursday night to an apartment complex fire in Bicknell. The fire occurred at a former nursing home which has been converted to apartments.
