Protesters with Jewish Voice for Peace shut down Speer Boulevard Sunday as part of a demonstration calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. Over 100 protesters marched from the Auraria campus to the intersection of North Speer Boulevard and Champa Street, close to the Colorado Convention Center, where the Jewish National Fund USA’s Global Conference for Israel has been taking place since Thursday. With temperatures expected to drop to the low 20s Thursday night, Denver is opening several overnight shelters. The ballroom of New Directions, or the former Best Western hotel, at 4595 Quebec St., and the former Doubletree Hotel at 4040 Quebec St. will provide overnight accommodations from 7 p.m. Thursday night to 7 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 According to the National Weather Service, the Denver/Boulder area is under a hazardous weather condition watch due to below freezing temperatures. The City of Denver secured an agreement to buy the Denver Post Building at 101 West Colfax Ave. for $88.5 million from current owner Kayan, LLC. City Council’s Finance and Governance Committee will consider the purchase agreement on Tuesday. The building will house a variety of Denver’s legal advocacy services and programs including rental assistance, which have been operating out of unmarked space in the City and County Building.
