CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — Critics are claiming there's a new round in the "War on Coal" after a White House agency released a new plan Thursday. Even some backers of "green energy" say coal can still co-exist with cleaner fossil fuel technologies.
Many West Virginia leaders are upset about new rules from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is trying to set new emission guidelines for things such as carbon dioxide and mercury levels that can be emitted by coal power plants.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Morgantown's cupcake and craft beer festival is returning in 2024 at a new location and with 10 of West Virginia's most iconic breweries and cideries.
This year the WV Cupcake and Craft Beer Fest will be held on lower High Street, which should be a familiar location to anyone who attended Hops on the Mon in October last year. The event begins at noon on Saturday, April 27 and will conclude at 6 p.m.

DOVER, Del. (WVNS) — One West Virginia native is hoping to enter victory lane as he races his way around Dover Motor Speedway's mile long track in the General Tire 150.
Christian Rose is a racecar driver from Martinsburg, West Virginia, who is racing in the ARCA Menards Race Series. Rose is not just racing within the series—he is currently the points leader for the entire pack.

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (WBOY) — Criminal charges are pending against two high school students after an altercation at Philip Barbour High School on Thursday.
According to a report shared by the Barbour County Sheriff's Department on social media, a report was made that a student had a gun in the common area during lunch. Teachers and the Prevention Resource Officer at the school contained the student suspect, and "anything he had access to was immediately searched," but no weapon was found, the release said.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — One person had to be taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a vehicle accident on Interstate 79 that has caused delays in the area.

The business celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.
According to its Facebook page, Clarksburg Pizza Co. offers a variety of specialty pizzas and calzones as well as appetizers, sandwiches, hoagies and salads.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Because West Virginia is the only state completely within the Appalachian Mountains, it's usually considered exempt from certain natural disasters like tornados, but is it really?
Although tornados are uncommon in the Mountain State, West Virginia has already seen several of them in 2024, including one in Fayette County and several in Kanawha County.
With those tornados added, the National Weather Service announced on April 25, 2024 that it has deemed Kanawha County the most tornado-prone county in West Virginia, with 16 tornados documented there since 1875.

MARLINTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — The boardwalk that provides access to and preservation of one of West Virginia's most unique ecosystems is being completely replaced.
Gov. Jim Justice announced last week that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service secured $1.25 million for the project, and Monongahela National Forest Natural Resource Specialist Julie Fosbender told 12 News that the reconstruction will preserve access to the area "for many years to come."
