Fall/Winter 2021
The Dopamine Flux
by Lindsay Musgrove

Time has come around, yet again. I seem to be in the process of book-writing every year, all year long, and coming out with a book once a year. At that rate, I do have to share that I am in the process (more like in the middle) of writing another poetry book that has more to do with dealing with life and all its conundrums that it has to offer against my liking or will. I hope to put this out by fall or winter of 2021. The working title of this is One Hundred Poppies. Although, that is just a working title, but do keep that in mind when searching for this work in the future! It’s a compilation ..read more

A Personal Essay on a Breakup of a Family
The Dopamine Flux
by Lindsay Musgrove
3y ago
The dynamic two people create in the beginning stages of a family can be highly rewarding. Starting with a spouse, and then branching off with children, many times it starts with great intentions. The dreams of what you may think your family will become and achieve are so mentally stimulating and prized by legacy foundations. For those that start off wanting, and then creating a family, it’s a beautiful and noble thing at most. We want to do better for our children, and show them what is possible even beyond us. Many times things just don’t quite take a turn for how we even realistically feed ..read more

Welcome To My Black Parade

When depression tempts you, you listen against your will. When anxiety scares you, you cower from it all. When psychosis drives you, your ability to exist becomes something of an anomaly. This past year has driven my spirit, ability, and way of life to the ground. I wish it hadn’t, and to be honest I didn’t even see all of this coming. Not the mental health factors, anyway, but above it all, I’ve spent a great deal within every life situation I’ve experienced halfway not in reality. I can attest to some of that time I’ve been ok with that. For the majority of time on everything else and what h ..read more

Preventing Depression: The Best Way To Fight It
The Dopamine Flux
by Lindsay Musgrove

My experience with depression has led me to believe one of the most important things we can work towards is prevention. Having experienced bouts of depression that have lasted for years, I know how hard it can be to get out of depression once you’re in it. One of the hardest things about depression in my opinion is how suddenly it can come upon you. One week you’re trucking along just fine, and the next week you’re struggling to get out of bed and avoiding all social contact. What’s particularly difficult about how swift depression can set in is the fact that it’s often when we least suspect i ..read more

Fitness + Mental Health
The Dopamine Flux

I have lost about 20 pounds since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. My friends are often asking me how I managed to lose weight or remain dedicated to my fitness goals without access to gyms.  As we grow, it becomes a natural progression for us to stop taking care of our physical health. We leave home-cooked meals filled with our parents’ essential nutrition and substitute it with quick, ready-to-order fast food. We no longer depend on our parents to encourage us to play outside or sign us up for a sports team. We start to attend bars or clubs weekly simply because that’s the “adult” th ..read more

When Being “Just Moody” Isn’t Just Moody
The Dopamine Flux
by Lindsay Musgrove
3y ago
I was always considered a moody child. I acquired that title at age 10 and carried it into young adulthood. I was always the “emotional” one – happy without limits then sad beyond measure. I was the only kid in my 7th-grade class who skipped home on a Friday and slept until Sunday; felt shy and awkward one week then was a playground stand-up comedian the next; acted “normal” for weeks and then would slip into rage-induced fits – only to repeat those cycles all over again. Something was wrong, really wrong. I wasn’t “just moody”. I wasn’t “just fussy”, “just spoiled” or “just cranky”. I was an ..read more
