An East Bay city struggling to keep up with its ever growing population is getting a brand new high school.  The number of residents in Dublin has been increasing so fast that you could call it a boomtown. Statistics show that between 2010 and 2020, Dublin was the fastest growing city not just in the Bay Area, but the entire state. Despite posting its steepest quarterly decline in iPhone sales since the beginning of the pandemic, Apple's stock surged Thursday after the company announced a 4% increase in its quarterly dividend and a $110 billion stock buyback plan. The Bay Bridge is set to shine again, starting in 2025, after a fundraising campaign by the nonprofit arts organization Illuminate brought in nearly $11 million to restart the art project. The revamping of the Bay Lights public art installation, dubbed The Bay Lights 360, will see both sides of the bridge's western span illuminated, with more than double the number of LED lights compared to the original iteration. A man who apparently drowned Wednesday after going into the water at Drakes Beach was identified as the Mill Valley music teacher arrested on child sex abuse charges a day earlier, according to authorities.  The Marin County Sheriff's Office said they received a 9-1-1 call Wednesday afternoon shortly after 2:30 p.m. regarding a surfer who had possibly washed out to sea within the Point Reyes National Seashore at Drakes Beach. Police in Livermore asked for the public's help Thursday in finding a man suspected in a double homicide at a hotel last weekend. The incident happened Saturday at the La Quinta Inn on Southfront Road at about 6:45 a.m. Livermore police said officers responding to a shooting arrived to find a 26-year-old Oakland woman and a 21-year-old Hayward man shot to death inside a room. A shootout between at least two cars in Oakland caused a crash involving an innocent bystanders' vehicle Thursday morning near several schools. Oakland police said a shooting activated a ShotSpotter alert just after 7:30 a.m. on the 2500 block of Cherokee Avenue near Bishop O'Dowd High School and the campus of Barack Obama Academy / Francophone Charter School in the city's Toler Heights neighborhood. Police in Concord on Thursday confirmed the recent arrest of a man facing multiple charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor under 16 years of age at the hair salon he owns. In a press release posted on the Concord Police Department Facebook page, police said that the department's Special Victims Unit (SVU) arrested 41-year-old Chi Ngoc Vu on Monday for multiple counts of sexual assault. Violence broke out Wednesday evening at an encampment at Sproul Plaza on the UC Berkeley campus after days of peaceful assembly in response to the Israel-Hamas war, a contrast to arrests and turmoil at other American schools. According to UC Berkeley police, just before 7 p.m., a physical altercation occurred between two opposing groups.
