On Sunday, April 21, 2024, at approximately 12:22 a.m., a La Plata Police Department Officer observed a vehicle speeding and driving erratically in the area of Crain Highway and Centennial Street. The vehicle was stopped and upon interviewing the driver the officer noticed signs of impairment. The officer also observed two children ages 4 and 9 in the vehicle. At approximately 12:28 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, while conducting a traffic stop for failing to make a required stop at a stop sign near the 23000 block of Three Notch Road in California, Deputy First Class Tyler Westphal observed suspected cocaine in plain view inside the 2003 Acura TL driven by Kristina Hope Beggs, 45, of California. A subsequent search uncovered additional suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia, both within the car and on Beggs’ person. UPDATE 4/25/2024: On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at approximately 5:47 p.m., firefighters from Waldorf and surrounding departments responded to 2129 Briarwood Drive in Waldorf, for the reported house on fire. Crews arrived on the scene within minutes of dispatch to find fire showing from the rear of the split foyer single family dwelling. Firefighters controlled the fire within 12 minutes and searched for extensions which found fire in the cockloft. The fire was extinguished in under 25 minutes. On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 2:08 p.m., firefighters responded to 11264 Flagstaff Place in Waldorf, for the reported structure fire. Crews arrived on the scene to find a three story end of the row townhouse with fire showing from the second floor balcony. Firefighters extinguished the fire in under 20 minutes.
