100 goals and Harvard: Junior nearing milestone & an Ivy League commit lead star-powered Dawson soccer
Longmont Times-Call
by Brent New

LAFAYETTE — Dawson coach John Welsch was taken aback when first informed that Mustang star junior Kanoe Bihag’s next goal would be the 100th of her career. Then, in the next moment, it was as if he already knew — which if not a genuine “well, on second thought” moment, would’ve been stellar comedic timing. “When you told me that this is 99 knocking on the door for 100, I go, ‘wow,’” he said after his team’s lightning-shortened 3-0 win over Nederland on Friday. “And then looking back, it’s like ‘yeah, I see that.’” He marveled: “There are certain high school programs that might not have 100 goa ..read more

Sluggish Nuggets dominated by energized Lakers in Game 4, lose 119-108
Longmont Times-Call
by Patrick Saunders

LOS ANGELES — When it’s all said and done, the Lakers’ domination of the Nuggets will probably be much ado about nothing. But Saturday night, it was really something. Leading from start to finish and playing with a fire the Nuggets lacked, Los Angeles, with its season on the brink, rolled to a 119-108 Game 4 victory at rocking Crypto.com Arena. The Nuggets lead the first-round series 3-1 as they head back for Monday night’s Game 5 at Ball Arena, knowing that no NBA team has ever rebounded from a 3-0 deficit to win a seven-game playoff series. Still, Denver will carry the weight of the memory t ..read more

If Broncos’ rebuild works as Sean Payton, George Paton hope, the past six weeks will have played critical role
Longmont Times-Call
by Parker Gabriel

When Sean Payton led a Broncos contingent to Oregon in the middle of March, so much of the franchise’s offseason remained unsettled. A few days into free agency, most of Denver’s biggest moves had been outbound. Russell Wilson released. Justin Simmons, too. Jerry Jeudy traded. Josey Jewell clearly headed elsewhere. The Broncos had made some additions, too, but more modest in nature. And nothing at quarterback. On the back side of the NFL combine, the Broncos were headlong into evaluating the draft’s quarterback class but were just starting to really get to know the candidates. In fact, the tri ..read more

Female firefighters hone skills Boulder County training event
Longmont Times-Call
by Dana Cadey

Firefighter Lanie Osborne made the commute from Grand Junction to Boulder County to spend Saturday honing skills and creating connections with other women in the industry. Despite the four-hour trip – and the cold, rainy weather – Osborne thought it was well worth the effort. “The idea of being able to train with women was really cool,” Osborne said. “I was the only female in my fire academy. Knowing that you’re not the only one is nice. There are other people you can lean on and ask for advice.” Osborne was one of around 75 firefighters who attended Saturday’s “Women in the Fire Service Skill ..read more
