Jasper County fair There’s talk of adding a new Shelter type building without sides on the Jasper County fairgrounds in Colfax. Fair Board member Ed Machin and former longtime Board member Doug Woebbeking have a commitment from the County Board of Supervisors to contribute 20-thousand dollars of this current year’s local option sales tax revenue to the project. That was Machin speaking to the County Supervisors last week. Ken Rozenboom Local State Senator Ken Rozenboom says a bill that’s been approved by the legislature aims to help young students who struggle with reading. It requires schools to notify parents if their child isn’t reading well, and lets the student repeat a grade. Under the new legislation…the Oskaloosa Republican says teachers are required to develop a plan to improve the reading ability of any kindergarten through 6th grader who is not reading at grade level. Jasper County Emergency Management The National Weather Service has confirmed several tornadoes touched down in Iowa Tuesday. Jasper County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Jamey Robinson says tornadoes are just one element of the County’s Outdoor Warning Siren Activation Protocol. Winds above 72 mph and 1.75-inch hail is another. But revisions to that protocol could be coming. Robinson also re-iterates that the outdoor sirens are meant for outdoor notification ONLY.
