In her book "You are your child's first teacher" Rahima Baldwin Dancey warns of the over emphasis we place on academics often at the expense of encouraging natural development of social skills such as building healthy interpersonal relations, stable routines as well as an anchored spiritual alertness. She points at how this miseducation has led society to raising highly educated, functionally illiterate adults. In modern society, where intellectual acumen, opulence and social standing are considered the true measure of success, basic life skills necessary for balanced living are either blata ..read more

Times of crisis are also times of great opportunities. Often these opportunities arise as a result of simple hacks or tweaking of the conventional to adapt to environmental or socio-economic pressures. In a number of ways Covid-19 forces us off the demanding grind of everyday life to consider our ways. With more than 15,000 casualties worldwide, the pandemic has caused a number of people to turn their focus to survival, our hedonistic culture has now turned focus to what is important and necessary. With my faith firmly in God, precautions and protocols in place to keep the virus as remotely ..read more

It is commonly known that crisis brings with it opportunities. My observations of the Covid-19 pandemic is that while we wait for a vaccine, the best form of defense is behavioural change. Some of us have the opportunity to finally practice age old basic hygiene routines our parents tried to instill eons ago.  One opportunity that both business and consumers can benefit from during this season is the rise of online shopping. Although the service has been around for a while and offered by wide variety of retailers such as supermarkets, clothing stores and in some cases pharmacies, the conv ..read more

I often avoid delving into the unknown, especially if that threatens my established way of life. So recently I took time to dissect the source of my phobia which exposed a barrage of dissuasions that have informed my world view over time. "What if it does not work out?" and "You will fail if you do that!" not to mention "That has never been done before", or "You are setting yourself for failure". What made the words stick was that they came from people I considered key figures in my life. Simply put, I suffer from a common affliction known as "fear of failure", causing me and countless others ..read more

In his book, The God Delusion, Richard Dawkins argues that “A child is not a Christian child, not a Muslim child, but a child of Christian parents or a child of Muslim parents. This latter nomenclature, by the way, would be an excellent piece of consciousness-raising for the children themselves. A child who is told she is a 'child of Muslim parents' will immediately realize that religion is something for her to choose -or reject- when she becomes old enough to do so.” Rightfully so, Dawkins assertion that belief is a matter of choice and therefore cannot be ascribed to one simply because they ..read more

Dr. Li Wenliang was among the first doctors in Wuhan to encounter the highly contagious Covid-19 virus. In an interview with the New York Times before his death, Dr. Li speaks of how he became careless and did not protect himself because the patient that infected him had no symptoms. Interestingly, negligence and ill  preparedness seems to be the thread that knits this whole pandemic together. World leaders in various countries bungled the handling of initial cases of the outbreak, providing conditions for infections to  thrive. With 61 cases now reported in South Africa and Cabinet h ..read more

I was recently tracking a trader's blog when one of the comments from his followers left me thinking. The post was thanking Rayner for teaching a trader the value of meticulously dissecting your losses in order to become a better trader. What started my thinking with this comment is that Rayner attributes his trading success to the fact that he'd failed at trading  a couple of times. But each time he lost, his biggest take away was the lessons he gleaned, as a result he's continuously grown better at what he did to where he now mentors others.  My fascination with this comment unlocked o ..read more

There is a growing rift in our country that stands in the way of progress. Popular phrases such as "white monopoly capital" have legitimized reasons to champion such a cause among politicians. Socially, the rift between those who subscribe to euro-centric idealism and those who refuse to leave the apartheid skeletons in the past feeds an ominous outlook into public discourse. Essentially, the rift emanates from the inability of the various racial groupings in our beloved country to forgive and get on with building side by side without negating the past, or negating the need for reparatio ..read more

A lot of our lives are lived with a veiled understanding of Ecclesiastes 10:19, that money is the answer to almost all our problems. So we toil away our lives, all in the hope of attaining that problem free, life of ease, where money serves your needs. In as much as our hearts constantly speak deep about living life with a transcendent sense of purpose, multitudes sadly recline from purpose motivated by that problem free utopia.  In Money Heist, a Netflix series, a criminal mastermind recruits eight criminals to pull the biggest heist in recorded history, by taking the Royal Mint of Spain ..read more
