SS19 Modest Fashion Colour Palette

Some colour-ways I’m really liking at the moment, as we approach SS19, are fresh blush tones, accented with ebullient jewel tones. Here’s a peak of my current PIZZAZZ Pinterest board. Left hand side: Emerald / jade greens with gold threaded through. Terracotta / muted blush pink red – a lovely tone that would also make a very nice lip colour. Thick fur look – in keeping with the teddy bear coat trend, padded fur takes the edge off the cold brisk spring weather. Embroidery motifs – gold threaded, elegant, crisp, clear, organic leaf patterns. Right hand side: Blush tone peaches. Beaded / tear dr ..read more

The Red Velvet ‘Abaya
Fahima Miah

This is one of the most exciting pieces I have worked on to date: the red velvet ‘abaya. This velvet ‘abaya was made for my sister to wear as a guest at a wedding. She had given me a lovely plum red velvet material, amongst other materials, a while back, with the hope of me making her a dress out of it, but we never really got around to turning it into anything. Fast forward a year or so to when my sister was telling me about how she had nothing to wear to an upcoming wedding and that she couldn’t really wear anything in her current wardrobe because it wasn’t really maternity-friendly. This is ..read more

Haute Elan is one of the most talked about businesses in the modest fashion industry today. Founders of London Modest Fashion Week, this fabulous company houses a number of modest fashion brands all under one site. In this blog, I have picked out a few inspirational ‘abayas that I really like, each for different reasons. The designers behind each of these ‘abayas have incorporated a number of techniques in their pieces and in this article I will be highlighting why I am head-over-heels for these techniques and why I might want to incorporate some of them into my own capsule collection ..read more

The Embroidered Sleeve ‘Abaya

First of all, this is one of my most favourite ‘abayas that I have designed to date. It’s so easy to wear and fits perfectly – some of the many perks of designing and making your own clothes!  I love this ‘abaya not only because it is exactly the right length (not too long that I am forever tripping up on it and ruining the bottom – it happens and not too short that it makes me look like an overgrown beast) and not only because it is black (black is a staple colour for anyone’s wardrobe), but I love it because of the embroidery work on the sleeves, that just add a touch of elegance and class t ..read more

How to Start your own Modest Islamic Fashion Label
Fahima Miah
by Fahima Miah

Today I think I can say I actually took a productive step towards achieving my goal of launching my own modest Islamic fashion label.  I know it’s going to be a long process, but after years and years of saying *and praying* my fashion label will set off, I can finally say that today, I actually made some progress towards making this happen, in shaa Allah. Lacking the motivation to become an Islamic Fashion Designer I have recently graduated and now finally have the time to carve out my own niche in the Islamic fashion world.  For years I have been gathering materials and tools but have always ..read more
