Please note: This camp was kindly gifted to our family in exchange for a review. However, the opinions expressed herein are our honest review. With the world shut down and kids going crazy at home, I couldn’t have been more thrilled to find iD Tech’s Virtual Tech Camps. Our 12-year-old daughter, Lucy, is has completed two days of her Minecraft Modding Camp and couldn’t be happier. Having a tomboy-ish daughter can prove tricky when searching for the right thing to fill their time. Lucy has always preferred cowboy outfits to dresses, playing in ..read more

Welcome! Our family has been traveling around the world, full-time, for nearly two years.  I have five children, ages 12-2, and we've been successfully homeschooling the entire time.  We have to be as digital as possible as we travel.  I’ve got two other blog posts about our “worldschooling” if you are interested here and here. My General Tips for Tackling Homeschooling 1.Prepare for a new role. Playing parent and teacher means you have to fill a new role.  You will get plenty of kickback from your children about doing their school work.  All they want to do is play, of course!  Try to stay c ..read more

What a whirlwind, huh? This crazy virus is literally changing the world overnight. We are waking each morning to find more and more closures, border closures and crazy pictures from back home of empty store shelves and grocery store pandemonium. Meantime, things are pretty calm here in New Zealand. We made it to the store yesterday to “stock up”, but all if normal. There is plenty of toilet paper. No one is panicking. We can find all we need. Just two days ago, we went to a Thursday night market in Rotorua with friends, something that is now banned in the US. It’s difficult to reconcil ..read more

Planning a trip to Rome with kids? Great choice! We spent a month in Rome with our five kids and really enjoyed the city. We knew we wanted to visit Pompeii and wondered many things: How do we get there? What’s the best way with kids? How will the kids handle it? Will it be boring? Do we need to prepare for the visit in any way? Should we have a guide? We made a few mistakes in our visit, but overall it was a huge highlight for us in our visit to Rome. In fact, we hope to go back again in a few years. I wanted to share some tips for other families planning their travels to Pompeii. For ..read more

What to do with the kid’s education when you set off for full-time travel is a matter of great consideration. I think of it as one of the big hurdles to climb along with finances, relationships and medical issues. The decision to homeschool is a big one no matter where you are doing it. What program will you use? Does your school district mandate a certain curriculum? Will you join with other homeschoolers to do groups or classes together? What about going to a school part time for extras? I had always been fascinated with homeschool. I think it can be a wonderful experience when treated ..read more
