Hi, I'm back. As the semester progressed, this blog faded into the back of my mind. And I think it was for the best as wow was this semester an adventure. It started out challenging, so I dropped a class. Then things got challenging and I ended up reading an entire book in one night not once, not twice, but three times. Then Covid-19 struck and things sort of fell apart as classes were booted online and I lost track of anything that was going on. But here I am now, a week out from exams and feeling amazing. I still wake up every morning dreading assignments I don't have, but that will fade ..read more

What to Buy Second Hand

I will be an advocate of thrift store shopping until the day I die. Why pay full price for anything when thrift stores can have some perfectly good equivalents in surprisingly good shape? And if thrift stores aren't your jam, Facebook Marketplace is a great source for person to person second hand sale. 1. Clothing How often do you wear out your clothing? Now how often do you size out of or no longer like a piece of clothing? One of those happens magnitudes more often and for most people your response to these events is to donate bag-fulls of perfectly good items. I have on several occasion fo ..read more

So if you are unaware of perhaps one of the greatest cooking shows of all time, Great British Bake Off is an amazing British baking competition. One of the judges is the dreamy Paul Hollywood, king of bread making. I have always wanted to learn to make bread, I feel like it is a quintessential homemaker skill. However, I was always too afraid to start as I had no idea where to start. Then I realized, Paul Hollywood would never do me dirty. Hence I will be embarking on the Paul Hollywood project, a quest to master his basic bread recipes and become a passable baker. If you wish to follow alon ..read more

What to Buy at Dollar Tree

I am ashamed to admit, but at one point in my life I was a Dollar Tree junkie. I mean I was there every week checking out what new stuff they had and picking up all sorts of things I didn't need. This really peaked in the first part of our marriage when I realized what amazing home decor items they had. But more on that later. I did finally kick the habit on the whole and am a much wiser shopper. All this experience has given me some unique expertise on what is best to buy at my adult Disneyland. 1. Reusable Cloth Rounds This was my very first move toward more sustainable living. If you h ..read more

The truth about DIY skincare
Makings of a Homemaker

Anyone who has forayed into the beauty category on Pinterest can tell you there is no end to the DIY home recipe face masks and treatments you can. I am here to tell you that these are pretty much entirely terrible. There seems to be this mass misconception among a lot of mommy/natural/home remedy bloggers that natural is always better. And while this may be true for food, it is often the opposite of true for skincare. This is not motivated by any dislike for the groups who advocate such remedies, but rather adherence to the first rule of skincare: do no harm. Evidence 1: Natural exfoliant ..read more

I am working on some big posts right now that will take some time, so for now enjoy this quick list of my favorite beauty and lifestyle YouTubers KathleenLights She is my O.G., my one love. The only youtuber who has carried over since my high school days Kathleen is like an old friend. I love her personality and awkward sass. I was especially charmed when I learned my husband is an Aquarius like Kathleen, because they have a lot of the same traits I love. If you want a good taste of her content, check out her monthly BoxyCharm un-boxings. Samantha March If Kathleen wasn't my original gi ..read more

Goal Recap: January was a Jumble

So, now at the end of this first month of 2020 I am called up to reflection on how my goals are doing... Personal Goals Well at least I have one thing together in my life, my skincare routine. I mean my routine is popping. I can totally see a difference and I am loving it. Healthy bedtime routine, that's a funny joke. I really didn't realize how hard this would be. The largest hurdles are two-fold: boredom and Tim. I am so used to watching YouTube while getting ready that I found myself just feeling so under-stimulated. Really this is the goal though, to calm myself down. It is just going to ..read more

Each  month I will do a round up of some recipes we tried and any tips I can give. Classics We Remade Barbecue Pineapple Meatballs: These are my absolute favorite and a breeze to make. I usually don't even worry about measurements and just go with the proportions I feel work. Great over rice with a side salad. Crazy Good Beef and Broccoli: This week we made it with a frozen stir fry mix and as always the sauce is to die for. I would put that sauce over anything Chicken and Dumplings: Nothing says cold weather food quite like chicken and dumplings. It is also great fr a large group which I ..read more

Creating a Capsule Wardrobe
Makings of a Homemaker

My whole life I have struggled with how to dress. I was overweight when I was young, up until my senior year of high school. This meant I always sided on the side of loose clothes, mainly unisex t-shirts and sweaters. I would also find a single item I liked and wear it every other day. Nothing was ever an outfit, just the same articles I loved. Even when it came to church clothes I struggled to ever find a set style I could enjoy. Now that I have lost a lot of weight, gained interest in sewing and fashion, and am rapidly approaching my professional career I want to develop my own style. Enter ..read more
