2020 has proven to be one of the times when we have been under the most stress in recent times. We are dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic, many of us are unemployed, family issues difficult to solve in the distance, all the normal life stressors and in the US… the election… I don’t know you, but I have felt completely overwhelmed and even though I have deepened my practice in many levels, I still find myself bombarded 24/7 with stimuli that I don’t necessarily need or want. I started by avoiding groups or friends in social media that would trigger my stress. And surprisingly, it was not neces ..read more

This past weekend, I attended the Yoga Expo in Fort Lauderdale and even though I didn’t really have time to attend more than one or two of the sessions and browse the vendors section, I decided to attend the class called Psoas Release for Anxiety Relief, by Janie Larmour. Since I had arrived at an odd time, where I could not join any of the already started sessions, I decided to just wait at the door of the room where the class would be held. A very nice lady was also waiting with me and actually told me she had driven across the state to make sure she could attend this session. That was comfo ..read more

If you recently started your yoga practice or you are planning on practicing yoga, there are several benefits you can start noticing pretty much from day one. By paying attention to what is going on in your mind, body and spirit during and after practicing yoga, can help you find mindfulness and commit to a long-term yoga practice. As a Yoga teacher, one of the first instructions I tell my students is to start noticing everything around them and also inwards. Turning their attention to the changes in their bodies, including any emotions, from the beginning of the class, and to continue with ..read more

Bring the magic of Yoga this holiday seasonThis time of the year can be very stressful, with so many commitments, presents and the never ending traffic jams and lines at the stores. We spend so much time thinking on what to give our loved ones, that sometimes it feels that we are missing on the real meaning of the Holiday Season, which should be peace and joy, no matter what you celebrate. A gift certificate or gift card from a local yoga studio may be the perfect present for your loved ones. For those that already practice yoga, it would be a most welcomed gift. And for those that have ne ..read more

Many people think that because they are not flexible they cannot do yoga. Nothing is farther from the truth: Yoga will help with your flexibility, but not only when it comes to the physical body, but also mentally. Not everyone starts doing yoga for the same reasons, and whatever your reason is, it may be difficult to find the right time, place and instructor to start your yoga path. There are so many different types of yoga out there, as well as so many options to where to practice: yoga studios, gyms, outdoor events, public libraries, etc. The most important thing to consider is for ..read more

Time for Giving Thanks

As we flow through November, we can get in the habit of giving thanks for what we have. Starting your day being thankful can change the way the day goes. As of last Saturday, I am starting my Yoga Classes with time to give thanks for anything the students can think of. I am not limiting them to only one thing, since sometimes we can’t control the flood of thoughts can may come to mind. We do this before we set the intention for the class, so it is set from a space of thankfulness which will make it a lot easier to be aligned with the intention itself. After all, toward the end of this month we ..read more

How could this happen to me if I practice Yoga?

I have been practicing Yoga for over a decade. I started, then I dropped it, and then I started seriously around 7 years ago, and since then my practice has been very consistent, I have reached a level of strength, flexibility and balance that I never knew I could reach, and I am also a lot more calm and less anxious than before. Three years ago I completed my 200 hours Teacher Training, and since then I specialized in teaching Yin Yoga, a style of yoga that targets the soft tissues other than muscles (tendons, ligaments, fascia). I have studied the benefits of holding Yin poses for longer per ..read more

From Yang to Yin

I have been practicing yoga seriously for the last 8 years, and two years ago I attended my first Yoga Teacher Training, for which I took a 6 month hiatus from my corporate career. It was probably one of the most enjoyable periods in my adult life. Once I finished my Teacher Training, it took me a good year and half before I started teaching Yoga seriously. First, I started as a substitute teacher and after a few months of collecting hours of experience, I was offered my very own weekly class: a 75 minute Vinyasa Flow class. My practice had been mostly with very active Vinyasa classes where I ..read more
