Santa Cruz Island to Oxnard – June 25, 2019
Sailing on Brizo

We only stayed at Santa Cruz Island for two days, Damien had quite a bit of work to do and there was no way he could work from there. So we headed back to Oxnard. Because there was so little cell reception on Santa Cruz Island, we couldn’t call the marinas to find a spot to hang out for a few days. We were heading back to Oxnard, unsure of where we could go. This is a nerve-wracking part of sailing in a catamaran. We have lots of space, the sailing is comfortable with little heeling, but most marinas don’t have room for us. When you call to ask if they have a side tie available, they practical ..read more

We woke up on November 1st excited to get a move on. This is it, this is the day we’re crossing the border! Excited, happy, nervous with a generous dash of disbelief, we pulled up the anchor around 9am and fueled up at Pearson Marine. We were motoring out of La Playa Cove at 9:30am, on track to arrive in Ensenada around 5pm, well before sunset. Temporary anchorage in La Playa Cove. Not too shabby, San Diego.Damien with his game face on, all fueled up and ready for action. It’s a short jaunt from San Diego to the border and there we were- 11am on Friday, November 1, 2019 we did it! We finally left Long Beach around 2:30pm. If you know us, you know we have a bad habit of being late. We’re not proud of it, we’re trying to grow out of it, but in true Campbell fashion, we left Long Beach about 3 hours later than we expected. With beautiful blue skies and calm seas ahead of us, we waved one last goodbye to the Queen Mary and were on our way. Adios Long Beach! We pulled up the main sail as soon as we cleared the breakwater, it felt great to see the sails up and the wind was perfect. We were able to sail for a few hours until the wind died down and we had to get our motors runni ..read more

An Open Letter to the Sting Rays of the World
Sailing on Brizo

Dear Stingrays, I’m sorry for whatever I did. I tried to shuffle; I didn’t mean to startle you. PLEASE STOP STINGING ME! Your friend, Beth   Getting stung by a stingray is not the business. I know, I’ve been stung twice. The first time was in 2015 in Balandra Bay in La Paz, Mexico. This beach is gorgeous and is known for being a hot spot of rays. So we shuffled. And halfway to where we were going, Damien says, “Maybe you should put your shoes on.” “Nah, we’re almost there! Just keep shuffling!” But we’re walking single file and the shuffle just scared the ray away from Damien. At first, I was ..read more

Living It Up In Long Beach – July 18th – October 25th

Shoreline Marina was good to us. We made lots of new friends. The people of dock CC were so friendly and welcoming, we really didn’t even want to leave. We met Jessi, Robert, Zoe and Apollo of SV Morning Star and had a few fun nights with them. I had been following them on Instagram for some time, so it already felt like we were old friends in real life once we met up. Social media can be weird, but this was definitely one of the positive aspects of it. I hate that I didn’t get a picture of us with Jessi and Robert, but I took a plenty of the kids. One of our best friends, Natalie, turned 20 ..read more

We Get A Slip! Redondo Beach to Shoreline Marina – July 18, 2019
Sailing on Brizo

There wasn’t a slip anywhere that we could take for a month or two. I had called every marina in Southern California (I wish I was exaggerating, I have a spreadsheet if you need it). We needed to get some work done on the boat, Damien needed Wi-Fi and we just needed a home base for a while. And then it happened. Shoreline Marina called and said they might have one available once the Transpac boats left for Hawaii. I emailed all of our documents and called just about every day. Finally, they said you can take it on the 18th. Woooohoooo! We had been up in Redondo Beach working on a possible batt ..read more

Catalina back to Alamitos Bay – July 13, 2019

The best part of being back in Alamitos Bay was meeting Damien’s cousin Kris! Damien hadn’t seen Kris in who knows how long and I had never met him. The similarities between Damien and Kris were pretty amazing and we had a loud laughter filled reunion lunch at The Boathouse. We got to see Kris a few more times while we were in Long Beach at a few of his band’s shows. It was really awesome to meet him and I’m so glad they were able to catch up.
