“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”  2 Corinthians 6:14(NIV) You’ve probably heard this verse before. But do you know what it means to be ‘yoked’? Yoke– a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plow or cart that they are to pull. See that wooden piece in the middle of those animals? That’s a yoke. And when both animals are of equal strength and close in size, the object being pu ..read more

But I say to you, love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Matthew 5:44(AMP) We read the story of the woman caught in the act of adultery and we feel bad for her. Like she was being picked on and Jesus showed her mercy. We feel bad that she was probably embarrassed and ashamed. We think the Pharisees that brought her out into the middle of the court are being awful people. But let’s for just a minute, reread this story from the point of view of the man’s wife, or the woman’s husband that is currently being cheated on. &nb ..read more

Running from God never ends well. He’s faster than you. Jordansmith.blog Have you ever ran away from God? You know those corners of your mind you just block off. You avoid the internal conversation and nudging of the Holy Spirit because you know good and well what He wants you to do and most of all, that you don’t want to do it. You’ll be happy to know, you’re not the only one. Jonah, a literal prophet of God, ran away too. Physically tried to escape the presence of God by fleeing on a boat. It’s kind of comical actually. A man who knows God well enough to be His mouthpiece, thinks that ther ..read more

Good Friday

Friday’s disappointment was Sunday’s empty tomb. Rattle, Brandon Lake The very first Good Friday was a bad day. It’s the day Jesus died. “Justice miscarried, and he was led off—     and did anyone really know what was happening?” Isaiah 53:8 (MSG) Now you and I know the story. So we know that Sunday comes- Easter. The day that Jesus comes back to life and wraps it all up in a victorious package of glory. But for the followers of Jesus, His disciples, His mother- Good Friday felt like the unfailing promises of God just got laid in a tomb. Everything they had believed, ever ..read more

Easy Like Sunday Morning

Whoever wrote, “Easy like Sunday morning,” did not have a family that attended church. Because I dare say that Sunday is the hardest day of the week when you have young kids. It was only Saturday night and I was already dreading Sunday morning. Not because I didn’t want to go to church, but because I didn’t want to get my whole house up and ready for church. Maybe you’re more sanctified than me and don’t feel that way, but over here, your girl is being honest. I have a new baby, a three year old, and my husband had to work so I was going to be doing it by myself. Not to mention, washing and s ..read more

Remain- continue to exist, especially after other similar or related people or things have ceased to exist. Dictionary Definitions from Oxford Languages I love that definition of remain. To exist when others stopped. To stay when others left. To continue when others quit. I really love it when you put in context with the scripture of John 15. “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you wi ..read more

He Always Makes It Good

God is not good because our outcome is. Our outcome will eventually and inevitably be good because our God is. Jordan Smith, “He’s Not Done” blog post I woke up this morning dripping with gratitude. I didn’t sleep much the night before because my precious newborn baby boy needed to be fed multiple times. I was tired, my hair hadn’t been washed in days. The house was a disaster because my three year old had played unhindered the whole day before. It was a mess. The mess I wept in prayer for. I wrote in a previous blog post, He’s Not Done , about the sad news of the miscarriage I had last year ..read more

Throne of Grace

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16(NIV) One morning I was trying my best to clear my mind from the anxiety ridden sleepless night before. I was fighting back against fear by speaking the Word over my life, I was meditating on His promises, and praising Him for the finished work of the cross. Which is all awesome and necessary in fighting the good fight of faith. But then, for whatever reason this time, I said out loud, “And Lord, I repent for not trusting you. I believe ..read more

Pain Isn’t Permanent

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18(NIV) This one is for the person who feels like God has walked off and left you. It doesn’t last forever. Pain is not permanent. It might feel like it is right now. But according to the steady and stable Word of God, we are promised that it’s not. “…weeping may remain for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5(NIV) The point of this post is not to tell you that your pain shouldn’t hurt. Pain is real. Hurt is strong. Trust me, I know. No one gets to escape a life well lived without a fair ..read more
