From the Black Death plague in the mid-1300s to the Ebola and SARS pandemic in the early 2000s, the Earth is no stranger to viral and bacterial attacks. Tiny microbes that cannot be seen with the naked eye has run ramped for centuries infecting and killing many of its victims. The reoccurring events of the past show us that we may never be totally safe from these deadly infections. So, this raises the question, ‘Why haven’t we learned our lesson yet?’
The global interconnectedness of our world today allows for people…and
viruses to cross continents in a single day. This presents the challe ..read more

International Women’s Day 2020
Why are women so amazing you
ask? From giving birth to supplying every human being on Earth with cellular energy,
here
are 5 facts that prove how biologically amazing women are.
Big BrainsWomen develop larger prefrontal and temporal brain areas of the cortex compared to men. These parts of the brain are responsible for cognition, personality, decision making about the future, and moderating social behavior. Mad Behavioral
Scientist – Under the Microscope
In 1951, a man named Oliver Brown stormed down the steps of an all-white elementary school with his daughter after being told that she could not enroll into school. Oliver was suggested to enroll his daughter in a ‘black’ school that would require a bus ride far from their home. He immediately left and filed a US federal court lawsuit against the Topeka Board of Education which began the famous Brown v. Board of Education case. Thankfully, three years later the justice court ruled una ..read more

There are no feelings that compare to
a new love blossoming. The long calls, sweet dreams, and butterflies paint a
beautiful picture; but what do we do when our romance movie turns into a horror
film?! Our relationships in life define us and sustain us; but they can also
break us. No matter how a relationship ended, severing any connection with a
person is like experiencing a death. Therefore, processing through the grief
process is necessary to heal and move forward from a breakup and mend your
heart.

Tightrope walking is both a science and an art involving
acrobats positioning their bodies to balance and move across a tension wire. This
amazing feat motivated the creation of the phrase: ‘walking the tightrope’
which refers to a person trying to balance two opposing views. In my opinion,
we are all walking the tightrope of life as we try to balance our feelings and
emotions through the ups and downs of life.
Stability and balance are states of being that is often desired
because we live in a very unstable and changing world. Life is a combination of
good and bad experiences that elicit r ..read more

“Thousands of humans have been brought to think that humility means pretty women trying to believe that they are ugly and clever men trying to believe they are fools.” – C.S. Lewis
The definition for humility in the English language is very vague and short sighted. Webster describes the term as someone who is of ‘low social rank or importance’, which could not be more incorrect. Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself…less. The world has seemed to cast a negative connotation to humility, when in fact it is the key to success.

Mae Carol Jemison ( October 17, 1956 – )
Mad Engineer – Scientist Under the Microscope
Houston, you are cleared for liftoff. September of 1992, Dr. Mae Jemison sat aboard the Endeavour spaceship anxiously waiting to be launched into orbit. All of her childhood dreams of becoming a scientist in space accomplished with a simple phrase. As the Endeavour broke through the Earth’s atmosphere, Mae Jemison not only became the first African American woman in space, but also the first astronaut who was a physician, engineer, and author.

At the start of the new year, many
people write lists upon lists of the many changes and improvements they would
like to see in their life. They make ambitious plans; however, their goals soon
become unattainable or lack longevity. Setting goals and making plans is not
the problem, but the method in achieving those goals is what’s flawed.
In 2017, the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) surveyed 6,400 gyms in the US and found that gym membership sales spike in January, but between 30-45 percent of people cancel their membership within six months. To understa ..read more

Addressing
the Loneliness Epidemic
You are in a crowded room filled with your friends, family, and acquaintances. You know everyone in the room, but you don’t believe that anyone present actually knows you. You look around confused as you are surrounded by so many people but still feel… lonely.
It is a common misconception that a person has to be “alone” to
feel lonely. Loneliness is defined as feeling empty, isolated, excluded or left
out. Feeling ‘lonely’ does not mean you’re alone, but that you don’t feel a
connection to others.
Today’s generation is more technologically connect ..read more

When
everyday people think of AI systems, they imagine futuristic robots that walk,
talk, and maybe even chauffeur us around. However, artificial intelligence is
not a mysterious possibility in the distant future, but a very present reality.
Highly intelligent computers/robots that were once only found in myth,
fiction, and philosophy can now be operated by anyone with a smartphone.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the
computer science development of machines that can think and perform tasks
like humans. Today, artificial intelligence is already being utilized in
everyday households through ..read more
