Migration news.
I've seen and / or heard:
Barn Swallows
Purple Martins
Orange-crowned Warblers
Hutton's Vireos
And this guy:
A White-crowned Sparrow.
Last year I had a group of seven birds.
And look who else flew through!
A Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audobon's)
The yellow throat and wings distinguish it from the other variation - Myrtle's.
Such a handsome bird
I'm glad I had some suet out.

Continuing with my Frame a Rabbit theme, several years ago I took in Ewe & Eye & Friend's "Brown Bunny" to be finished.
We decided on a very plain brown frame wit a bit of a metallic finish.
As the sampler is a bit busy, I thought a simple frame would be best.
I think it sets off the piece nicely...and so does the brown bunny.
Migration is marvelous!
Seeing my first male Purple Finches.
And hearing them too.
They are singing up a storm.
Also had the first small group of breeding colored American Goldfinches.

Can't remember for sure...
The bog-loving California Corn Lily.
And the Trilliums are in bloom.
The ones with the spotted leaves are my favorite.

I am very pleased with the finished product. I used 35 count 18th Century Rook linen and the Needlepoint Silks as charted. It is a lovely little sampler and fits perfectly as part of my "Rabbit Summer of 2009". I think this one needs to get framed.
After several months with no California Quail...
I saw a pair Saturday evening in the backyard.
A young female bird.
And an adult male.
Questions unanswered.

So far...
I'm only seeing one or two Band-tailed Pigeons.
And that's just fine.
They are BIG birds and overwhelm my feeders.
I wouldn't more seeing more Flickers.
This is a female. The other day I heard a male banging away on the flashings on the roof.

Here's a photo series of a Chestnut-backed Chickadee gathering nesting material.
The material is a ball of unprocessed cotton.
Earlier in the morning I watched an Anna's Hummingbird gathering this material.
I need to see if I have any activity in my nesting boxes.
