When you think of a tasty cocktail from Spain, the first thing that typically comes to mind is Sangria. However, after spending several months in the beautiful country, I learned that each area I traveled to had a special cocktail that was a must-try for travelers. So when I spent a few days in Valencia, I couldn’t wait to try their most popular cocktail, Agua de Valencia, also known as Valencian water. This delicious cocktail was created in the 1950s by a gentleman named Constante Gil in Café Madrid in Valencia. A few visitors from Basque came in to order drinks, and instead of orderin ..read more

Mijas Pueblo is a village in the mountains of the Costa del Sol in southern Spain. One of Andalucia’s prettiest towns, it’s known for its whitewashed buildings, cobblestone streets, wrought-iron balconies, and beautiful panoramic views overlooking the Mediterranean sea. It’s a great place to spend a day enjoying the comfortable climate and scenery, and after braving the hike of Caminito del Rey, I opted for a more relaxing day in this charming little village. During this time of uncertainty, we’re all trying to adapt to new norms. There’s a high rate of unemployment. Many of us are isolated. We try to adjust to the mandatory wearing of masks in public as we search for necessitie ..read more

When planning my trip to Colombia, friends and family couldn’t understand my interest in adding Medellín to my itinerary. Questions like “Isn’t it dangerous there?” and “What about the cartel and crime?” constantly buzzed in my ear. I was aware of the city’s notorious past. Medellín, a territory once ruled by the infamous Pablo Escobar, with 380 killings per 100,000 people, didn’t sound like an ideal place for sightseeing. At least it wasn’t about twenty years ago. However, over the years, there have been ..read more
