Foundations of Traditional Taijiquan core concepts and full curriculum Essays by Sam Masich
Book review by Matthew Stampe, LA.c, LMT.
When Sam first sent an email announcing his book, I ordered it right away without hesitation. I’ve done seminars with Sam in the early 90’s in the ‘A Taste of China All-Taijiquan Championships” competition back in the day. I know he is a real contributor to the Tai Chi martial arts and self cultivation community, and knew he will have good insights to share. Sam has been a competitor in forms, weapons, push hands, and even full contact and stands o ..read more

According to resources, basically the art Mo Tzu passed on to Chang San Feng (Zhang Sanfeng), the founder of Tai Chi, is based on Chinese martial arts that John Chang demonstrated in Ring of Fire: https://youtu.be/TdYM0vNufwc?si=lE-VwKnwgAR4BwoR
Chang San Feng is the legendary founder of Tai Chi and was early associated with Shaolin temple, and later created his art at Wu Dang temple. Sadly there is little to no evidence of his existence. His life is given in two different centuries and dynasty’s. One account places him in the Song dynasty, and the other the Yuan dynasty. There does exist ..read more

Taijiquan and healing
“Breathe from the heels” is often said in Taoist qigong. “Aging starts in the feet” is another old quote. I’ve been teaching my students and patients lately to check for pronation or supination in the ankles and feet. If pronation or supination is occuring then there will be problems everywhere up. Stability and mobility will also be affected. Be sure to check if you have pronation or supination, otherwise this will affect Taijiquan and qigong practice and more. Massage, chiropractic, Tui-na, Acupuncture, are some modalities that can help. There are plenty of Youtube vide ..read more
