Significant shifts are taking place in the Canadian residential mortgage landscape, according to the latest Fall 2023 Residential Mortgage Industry Report by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. “A decline in home sales led to a deceleration in new mortgage activity in the first half of 2023. Interprovincial in-migration continues to push homebuying activity to new limits, as local and out-of-province buyers compete for condominium product in Calgary’s heated apartment market, according to a report by RE/MAX Canada. While other residential real estate markets in the country continue to struggle due to higher interest rates and economic challenges, Calgary’s resale market is on fire these days. Coming off a record July for sales in that month and the highest benchmark price ever, activity so far in August remains robust with MLS sales and prices significantly higher than a year ago.
