Russian Blues

Our Russian blues originally came from Spain. They have a natural smile, striking green eyes, and a silver soft coat. Our king Misha has such a gorgeous dark blue coat. Our queens are Sasha (white coat with odd eyes), Masha, Dasha, and Natasha. Russian blues are so sweet. I can hold all my blues outside in my hands without thinking that they will scratch me or try to get out of my hands. It’s hard to say that about a lot of other cat breeds. They are shy at first and are a quiet cat breed. They have energy. Not too much but more than Maine coons for sure. They can climb up all over the place ..read more

This year God blessed us with an abundance of fruit, apples being one of them. Apples are however my least favorite fruit to eat. It could be because you can eat them all year long. Last year I mixed apples, sugar, and raisins and made brandy thanks to Off Grid with Doug and Stacy. I finally strained the apples and raisin mush and tried what I created last year. To my surprise it tasted wonderful. I tend to not want to try complicated recipes. This is one of the easiest recipes to try. You don’t have to be a drinker to actually make this brandy. There are canning recipes as well as cookin ..read more

Kidding season is a very exciting time. It can be pretty stressful as well. Get ready to lose sleep. You might miss Mother’s Day church service if you have a doe go into labor that morning. Usually everything goes well, and mamas’ body sure knows what to do but sometimes things can go wrong. It is wise to prepare for the worst. The does well being is your top priority. Do not interfere unless you have to. When doe does  give birth she won’t mind you being close to her even if she is skittish. Technically you can’t have a farm and travel much. Since starting our homestead journey, we have been exploring less than we ever have in our life. I miss new travel adventures but love all the exciting new life on the farm. We are still trying to figure out how we can travel more. We plan on hiring help in the near future. Now this isn’t our first time in Death Valley and won’t be our last. We absolutely love this National Park. We have yet to explore all 3.4 million miles of this park. We are hikers. Even if majority of the time I don’t look like a hiker this is a reminder that it can get re ..read more

I love canning meals. I mean, how convenient is it to simply open a can and warm it up and eat. Your kids can’t say that there isn’t any food in the house. There will be no need to grab some fast food on those crazy busy days because honey, you have a meal on your shelf. There are a few things that the USDA says you cannot can. You cannot add fats, dairy, grains, thickeners, nuts, and a few vegetables when canning a meal. I follow the safety guidelines. Please do your own research before you can anything but remember it is your kitchen, your rules. I raw packed my jars. This means you d ..read more

Maine Coon Ear Wipes
Homegrown Adventures

Ear wax is actually good for your cat but too much ear wax buildup isn’t. Maine Coons have gorgeous ears with ear tufts. These ear tufts actually help keep debris out and help to filter sound. I find that older cats don’t usually have a lot of buildup, but young kittens tend to. Since some cats are prone to wax buildup, cleaning their ears is a very important part of upkeeping your cat’s hygiene. You also don’t want to over clean your cats’ ears and only clean your cats’ ears with ear wipes if your cat has healthy ears and their ears are not infected. What you need: 1/4 cup of water 1/4 cup o ..read more
