How is the rotation doing? Pretty much exactly as expected.
Good morning, Viva El Birdos!
As I mentioned in my post last Wednesday, I am trying to get caught up on the 2024 Cardinals after essentially missing the first month of action. If I’m going to bring you content – in written or podcast form – on this year’s Cardinals team, I have to know what I’m talking about. (At least as much as usual.) That means research. If I’m going to take the time to research the 2024 Cardinals, I might as well write about it.
Today, I’ll return to an old format: Quick ‘N D ..read more

A brief overview on what the numbers tell us about the Cardinals offense both now and moving forward.
The Cardinals offense has been bad. If you’ve watched the games you know this. Even if you haven’t watched the games you probably know this because the lack of offense might be the reason why you aren’t watching the games.
There’s no other way to put this. The Cardinals offense has been bad.
So today I want to dig into the some of the numbers that tell us this and see what kind of knowledge we can glean from them.
Should we be optimistic? Pessimistic? Somewhere in be ..read more

Whiteyball Changed the game in the 1980’s
My first era as a baseball fan was the 1980s. Things were different back then. Astroturf was a LOT more popular during that era. There were only two divisions per league, so the Cardinals were in the East. How strange is that? As a kid, my main worry was the... NY Mets. My dad would yell at the tv, making fun of many of the Mets players names and possessing a derision somewhere between playful and utter.
The National League in the 1980s was mostly about the Cardinals and the 1986 Mets, as far as I remember. The Montreal Expos were also quite good. The ..read more

These are not your old Tigers, although it’s not clear they are actually good either.
Something interesting about yesterday’s loss is that normally a loss like that is devastating for more reasons than one. In order to get to the 11th inning and be put into that situation, you will use all your good pitchers and squander great pitching. If you can call it a bright side, the Cardinals’ loss is only devastating by wins and losses. A fact which is minimized by winning the series anyway, in my mind.
They did not miss out on great pitching: Lance Lynn didn’t p ..read more

The Cardinals, going for the series sweep, lost a heartbreaker Sunday afternoon 4-2 against the Mets in 11 innings.
In a game that saw very little offense by either team, St. Louis found themselves up a run in the 11th inning on a Brenden Donovan RBI single. With the lead Mathew Liberatore trotted back out for his 3rd inning of work out of the bullpen. Liberatore was able to get two quick outs on a Tyrone Taylor ground out that advanced the ghost runner to third and a Jeff McNeil line out.
After getting former Cardinals Harrison Bader into a quick two-strike count, a fastball that caught too ..read more
