Dealing with the dreaded midlife brain fog? If you’re also dealing with hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia then allow me to welcome you to perimenopause!
The good news is, you’re not losing it and you’re not alone! Studies show that brain fog is real (duh!) and that 60% of women go through menopause-related cognitive impairment. If you’re curious, check this out.
Out of all the perimenopause symptoms, I think brain fog is the worst (followed closely by insomnia and mood swings). This part of midlife kinda sucks if you ask me!
The name brain fog is a little misleading because it ..read more

It’s easy to lose yourself in the busyness of everyday life when the kids are little. Then they get older and more independent and they don’t need (or want) Mom’s attention 24-7. That transition from “on-duty all the time mom” to “on-call mom of teenagers” is tough.
It’s also an opportunity. It’s a chance to get a solid understanding of who you are, besides “Mom,” and what you really want so that you can make some decisions about the next phase of your life. That might sound hokey but words are powerful.
In fact, according to Andrew Newberg, M.D. and Mark Robert Waldman, a single positive or negative word can actually alter your brain. In their book, Words Can Change Your Brain they write:
“By holding a positive and optimistic word in your mind, you stimulate frontal lobe activity. This area inclu ..read more

Teen boys are hard to shop but finding stocking stuffers they’ll actually like and use, and that won’t break the bank takes “hard to shop for” to a whole new level. That’s the reason stocking stuffers were the bane of my existence last Christmas.
That’s a little over-dramatic for sure, but I honestly could not come up with ideas for stocking stuffers for my teen son. I was really frustrated because I felt like I was grabbing things just to fill the darn stocking.
Not cool.
I’m more prepared this year. I created a Stocking Stuffer Ideas list i ..read more

I’ve been thinning out my books to keep them from taking over our house (again), and I realized there were a lot of personal development books in the discard pile. Some of them were so bad I never even finished them.
Have you ever noticed that bad self-help books tend to fall into one of three categories-they’re boring, ridiculously cheesy, or they’re so full of outlandish and unrealistic promises that you can’t figure out how they were categorized as non-fiction in the first place?!
On the flip side, good personal development books are authentic ..read more
