I know that it’s been almost a year since my last post, as much as a I enjoy posting on here and interacting with other bloggers, sometimes real life seems to always get in the way. Nevertheless I am back posting now and I have a new project! A while back I did a post called Ill-Behaved Women where I created some portraits of women from history that chose to make their own path rather than follow the one that society deemed “Appropriate”, in honor of Women’s History Month this month I am expanding on that project and will be doing a whole series of portraits of women throughout history. I woul ..read more

Change Does Not Happen in Silence
Alyss Whitewood

Throughout history humans have used protest to bring about change. As a woman in the US I have the right to vote because of protest, segregation was ended because of protest, the United States exists as a country because of protest! I do not condone the violence that is happening right now but I do recognize and understand the anger and frustration behind it, I also know that it’s happening because too many of use have stayed silent for too long. The only way to fix this is through real change and that will not happen if we are silent ..read more

A Journey Through Mental Illness

I know that I disappeared for awhile with out explanation, during the holidays I often have difficulty with my mental health and I end up having to scale back things in my life in order to keep from completely falling apart. Follow that up with a global pandemic and… well… my mental health break ended up being a little longer than I anticipated. I am now making the attempt to get back in to posting on my blog because it is something that I enjoy doing even if I have to periodically step away to get my head screwed on straight! Since my return to blogging has coincided with Mental Health Awaren ..read more

Showing Gratitude: Photography Challenge Week 22
Alyss Whitewood

Later this week is the US Thanksgiving holiday, where we traditionally stuff our faces with massive amounts of food and then doze in front of the television while watching the US version of football and eating more food in the form of pie. We do this in the honor of showing gratitude and giving thanks and while the food stuffing and football watching is pretty much just a US thing the concept of gratitude is fairly universal. So in honor of the upcoming holiday in my country I thought I would use this weeks challenge as a way to send a message of thanks. Thank you to all those that have fol ..read more

If the Shoe Fits: Photography Challenge Week 21

After this post I should be back on track starting tomorrow for my regular Monday photography challenge post. Unfortunately real life sometimes interferes with our Second Life. The theme for this week is ‘Shoes’. I’m pretty sure that I own more pairs of shoes in Second Life than I do in real life. In real life I pretty much stick to either flats or low heeled boots anymore and I pick my shoes based more on comfort than style. In Second Life just about anything goes, my avatar can stand in stilettos all day long without batting an eyelash. For my shoes image I decided to take this as an o ..read more

Due to the fact that I delayed last weeks post because of my CAPM exam (which I passed!), I am going to be doing two photography challenge posts this week. This one which was for last week and a second one on Wednesday. The theme for this post is “fire”. Fire is one of those themes that can be interpreted a number of different ways. It can be depicted as a cozy fire with hot coco and a good book or it can be shown as a Phoenix rising from the ashes. For my photo this week I decided to literally light my avatar on fire, not only did this make for a pretty awesome image but it also meant I ..read more

Roses are Red: Photography Challenge Week 19

This seems to be one of those weeks that I’m running a little bit behind again, I would blame the time change but according to the clocks I gained an hour, where it went I have no idea… This weeks theme is the color red, this is one of those colors that is often associated with warmth and romance, but it is also a color of passion and anger. Red is a color that gets noticed in a crowd. For my image this week I decided to go for a couture look, I think it’s a look that works with red and it gave me an excuse to by this awesome red dress, not sure if I will have another reason to wear it a ..read more

In the Halloween Spirit: Photography Challenge Week 18

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love dressing up in costumes, decorating the house and listening to scary stories. Growing up my parents were also really in to Halloween, my mom decorated the whole house and because we lived in a big neighborhood with lots of kids it meant every year she would have to purchase about 12 to 14 bags of candy and even then we would sometimes run out of candy before we ran out of tricker treaters. I especially love Halloween in Second Life. In SL the sky is the limit on imagination and creativity. You can be anything you want and create a fantastic ..read more

Between the Lines: Photography Challenge Week 17

by alysswhitewood

Lines for a photographer are a very useful composition tool, they can be used to draw the viewers eye to a subject, they can be used to create a sense of motion in a photo and a photographer can even use crossing lines to create tension in an image, making it more interesting for the viewer to look at. Essentially out entire world is made up lines and as photographers we chose how to use those lines to tell our story. For my image this week I decided since it is October that I would head over to the sim Arranmore and do some shots at the haunted mansion, if you haven’t been over there I hi ..read more
