My name is Sharon and I'm mum to two, carer to Ellie and currently on a mission to change people's attitudes to Down Syndrome. The website will contain blogs, events and many amazing success stories to inspire others with Down Syndrome to believe in themselves and to support other parents who are in shock with the same diagnosis.

I don’t know why I have stopped blogging about Down Syndrome Awareness this year and life with Ellie and I don’t understand why it has been so difficult to start writing again. I guess the fear of saying the wrong thing, the fear of someone else’s opinion, the fear of it being a waste of time especially in lockdown…but that must stop, so I am BACK and going forward I will be writing a mix of Down Syndrome Awareness/Facts blogs and personal blogs. This will be a personal one.
Lockdown life, 2020 has not been what we all had hoped and wished for at the start of the year. Covid, pandemic, lockdow ..read more

Hellooooo!
It’s been nearly two months since I last wrote a blog so I have chosen to give you an update as I’m feeling aware of my lack of productivity. As a recent finalist in the Mums in Business Blogging Award, this is ridiculous. I started to question why I haven’t actually completed a blog recently; there have been several half-written from ‘Why I chose Special School over Mainstream’ to more recently ‘Why I Chose to Self Distance Early’ but I’ve not completed them; so today I give you a T21 Hub Update.

What is Down Syndrome?
There are many articles, websites and support groups on social media that can tell you the science, the facts and the up to date information of what Down Syndrome is. Here I share with you what I think it is in my own words, a mum’s opinion.
Only ten years ago I personally had never heard of Down Syndrome. When I received the diagnosis hours after Ellie was born it was met with a checklist and nothing positive. I cried, I cried not even knowing what I was crying about except I knew my daughter was disabled. The literature given to me to read was (now I know) outdated an ..read more

I start this blog by expressing that the words you read are my own independent views and that my only expertise here is to have raised a daughter (who is currently 10yrs old) with Down Syndrome. I have wanted to write blogs in this way for so long but have stopped myself for fear of judgement from others; but no more. If I can help educate just one person with this blog then I have succeeded in what I set out to do.
I personally believe that the language and terminology used when speaking about a person with Down Syndrome is so, so important as it is with any disability or learning difficulty ..read more

What a year and I know this is a late one for an annual review however I thought it would be a nice way to start the year off, with some intention. So let’s get started by beginning with what briefly happened in 2019, how did T21Hub start and what to anticipate in 2020.
Who Are We?
For those that are reading this blog for the first time, go check out my home page so you can see who and what we are all about. In a nutshell, T21hub began after a coaching call and 21 days of constant journalling. I was asked by my mentor, what and where was my passion?
It was obvious to me in the end, it was to r ..read more

You may read this and wonder what a weird question! That’s ok but I thought it was important for other carers to be assured that any question they ask themselves after diagnosis is all perfectly normal.
I collaborated with several parents in the Facebook community Wouldn’t Change A Thing Parent Support group to write this so please do read to see what questions often go through the mind of a mum when she is given a Down Syndrome diagnosis.
Social Questions

Will she have friends?

Will nursery have him?

After an amazing time at Winter Wonderland recently, I often get asked what is Center Parcs like as we have visited a few times now? Therefore I thought I would share my honest opinion and write a review.
Here is my review of Center Parcs, Whinfell forest’s Winter Wonderland.
First as stated, this is not the first time we, as a family have visited Winter Wonderland, this theme is usually available from month end November until December. Full details can be found on the website here https://www.centerparcs.co.uk/discover-center-parcs/holiday-locations/whinfell-forest.html

When Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse, little did he know what a Disney Empire he would be creating and who would have thought it would capture the hearts of so many children years after. The first Monday of every December is International Walt Disney Day and to celebrate I thought I would talk about who is Ellie’s favourite Disney character and see if you can guess.
Describing the CharacterFirst and what will become blindingly obvious is that this Disney character is female and a major player in a Disney film. The film itself was a huge box office success in 2013. The soundtrack to the film f ..read more

Given that this week is Anti-Bullying week, November 11th – 15th I thought I would write a post to help children avoid bullying from both sides; becoming a bully and being bullied.
I am a parent therefore I am no expert so this blog is purely my personal opinion only but after being bullied for a few years when I was younger I certainly have had the experience of it.
In addition having children, especially one with Down Syndrome, it is something I really do not want them to experience even though I often hear regularly “Children are just mean….. they all get bullied”
This shouldn’t be the norm ..read more

My blogging journey is all about educating people about Down Syndrome and I thought what an effective way of doing this was to create a simple A-Z to parents from parents who are raising a child with Down Syndrome. It is a collaboration with the help from other parents in our Facebook support group Wouldn’t Change A Thing (see attached). Together we devised this A-Z of words that we associate with having a child with Down Syndrome.
