Well, I do declare! It has been a while, hasn’t it? I didn’t realize that it has been 3 months since I’ve sat down to write something. Three months of anxiety, if we’re being honest. Between the pandemic and a tremendous amount of division in the country, the holidays seemed a little off. I suppose I got lost in the negative and forgot to look around for the positive.
Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t been abnormally depressed. I think I just forgot that there truly is good among the negativity. More good than bad, in fact. So, here I sit, looking at my computer. Nothing really important to write ..read more

Last night, we sat on the back patio, watching and feeling the cold front move in. We watched the leaves fall from the trees and enjoyed the feeling of a cool breeze on our skin. This morning, as I sat outside, breathing in the chill of Fall trying to creep in, I was reminded of the changing seasons in our lives.
Texas is a unique place to live. Our seasons change rapidly and, often, without notice. It’s nothing for us to wear a jacket in the morning, but bring shorts to wear in the afternoon. Always carry an umbrella, because that 20% chance of rain can turn into a guaranteed chance with the ..read more

Dear Heather,
First of all, did you really have to start it off like that? Nobody writes love letters to themselves and starts it off “Dear me.” Try again.
Hey… Heather… self…. what’s up?
I guess that’s better. Whatever. I see life didn’t quite go as you planned, huh? I distinctly remember you writing in a planner that you were going to be married and have children by 30 and be halfway to retirement by now. Isn’t it funny how we can try our hardest to predict our lives, but it ends up going however it wants to, anyway? (For the record, you’re a way better aunt than you would’ve been a mother ..read more

Have you ever traveled somewhere and, from the moment your put your feet on the ground and breathed in the air, you knew that this place was special? That’s exactly what Orcas Island is for me. And, if you take my advice, that’s exactly what it will be for you. I wrote a little snippet about our trip to the island, but this one will be more detailed. Here, I’m going to break down how to plan the travel itinerary, a few good places to stay, where you should eat and, most importantly, HOW TO SEE ORCAS!!!
That’s right, this little island got its name because there are pods of orcas that live arou ..read more

Christmas is right around the corner (and so is Amazon Prime Day)! Like many other people, it’s my favorite time of year. I love all 3 Christmas trees I put up in our house, the fact that our house almost always smells like Christmas cookies and how excited the kiddos get as they await Santa’s visit! One thing that used to stress me out is gift buying. With 6 nieces and nephews, I’ve learned a good bit about what works and what doesn’t. That’s why I put together this list of Christmas gifts to get the kids in your life!

Good morning, friends! Do you have your coffee? If you’re reading this in the afternoon, do you have your afternoon coffee? I know, that’s probably bad for you or something. But whatever. Afternoon coffee is delicious and don’t let anyone tell you differently. Anyway, life has been a little challenging lately, hasn’t it? We see so much division, so many disagreements and so much uncertainty. Gratitude is an important part of staying positive, but how do we practice gratitude when life gets so overwhelming?
Being grateful for what we have and where we are is a crucial part of keeping our perspe ..read more

One of the most common things I hear when I tell people I mostly eat vegetarian is, “I bet you spend so much money. Eating like that is expensive!” Actually, it’s not. Don’t get me wrong, it can get pricey, especially when you’re just starting out. Getting familiar with foods other than meat and potatoes is challenging. Don’t worry. I got you! I’m going to show you 7 ways you can eat fantastic vegetarian meals on a budget.

Hello, friends! It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. So long, in fact, that I didn’t remember my password. I would like to say it’s because it’s day 7,428 of the pandemic and I’ve been keeping super busy with important pandemic stuff. Really, it’s because I’ve been on a little self-discovery journey (if you missed it, read this post) and have dedicated more time to me than I have to writing. I am now working on a life remodel. Let’s play catch-up!
We bought our house 2 years ago with the intention of remodeling it and making it our forever home. After 2 botched jobs by contractors, the ..read more

Fall is on its way!! Well, if you live in Texas, we’re about a month away from the season we like to refer to as Halloween/Thanksgiving because we don’t actually have a fall. But, if you’re in many other areas of the country, fall is here!! In celebration of this joyous time of year, I have compiled a list of books that will change your life. Guaranteed!
My absolute favorite thing to do in the fall/winter months is curl up on the couch or in my backyard hammock (remember… Texas) and read a good book. I like to get lost in the pages and immerse myself into a new world or culture. There’s nothin ..read more

Can you believe it? Just 3 quotes! There are many good quotes and mantras to guide you, but these have helped me tremendously. Write these three on your mirror, hang them up in your office or say them every morning, whatever works for you. Life, especially in 2020, has a tendency to throw curveballs and we have to have our helmet on, bat in hand, ready to hit it out of the park.
“The surest way to lose your self-worth is by trying to find it in the eyes of others.” – Becca Lee
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it 500 more times, if I need to. Other people’s opinion of you is none of your busine ..read more
