The Venice square is located in the geographical center of the city. The square is named after Palazzo Venezia, one of the first Renaissance palaces in Rome. A small boat-shaped fountain located in the middle of the Spanish Square just below the steps of the Trinità dei Monti. The Fontana della Barcaccia completed between 1627 and 1629 was designed by the architects Pietro and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. According to the legend, the Tiber river flooded in 1598 and a small boat was carried into the middle of the square. This legend inspired Bernini’s creation.
