Rating: ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑ Eliza Quan is a model student- she’s hard-working, dedicated and is about to become her school paper’s new editor-in-chief. Until she’s not. Ex-jock Len DiMartile steals her place, just because he’s more likeable. But Eliza has the experience, and the fact is she’s obviously the right choice for the paper. So why did Len get chosen? Eliza can’t help wondering if her school is misogynistic… I loved reading this book! The plot was gripping, and the character development was great to read. I also loved the message behind the book, and the feminist views were really inspiring. Thi ..read more

Rating: ★★★★ This book by Gabrielle Zevin follows bookstore owner A.J. Fikry, and his journey through life. At the start of the novel, A.J. is struggling. His bookshop's sales are low, his wife has just died and his life is a wreck. When an unexpected package shows up in his store, his life is turned upside down.  I absolutely loved reading this book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone over the age of 13. The vivid description and the emotions that the author conveyed throughout the book brought the story to life, and I was in another world while reading this book. I loved the pl ..read more

Rating: ★★★★ This book by Evie Woods is written from three different perspectives. The book begins in the 1900s from the perspective of a young woman- Opaline Carlisle. Opaline has a strong love of books, but her brother and his ideas may get in the way of all her hopes and dreams. The book then switches to the present, following Martha, a young woman looking to escape her past, who finds a job as a housemaid for an old lady- Madame Bowden. We also meet Henry, a student looking for a legendary manuscript. I loved reading this book because it flowed so well, and the transitions between the di ..read more

Rating:★★★★★ This book, set in the Grishaverse, follows three different characters: Nikolai Lantsov, King of Ravka; Zoya Nazyalensky, general to the King; and Nina Zenik, Ravka’s spy. Their lives have all been torn apart, but have they braved the worst of the war yet? I absolutely love this entire series, and the grishaverse is possibly my favourite fictional world ever. I love all the characters, the setting, and the plot never fails to surprise me. The turns and twists shocked me, and every word had me on the edge of my seat. I did not want this book to end, and this is one of my favourit ..read more

Rating: ★★★★ This book follows Carrie Soto, a retired tennis player who returns to the court in an attempt to regain her stolen world record. But can Carrie, as a 37 year old, regain her title from the new young talent who has entered the court- Nicki Chan- without breaking herself and all those she loves?  I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone- it is the perfect mix of sports, passion, feminism and family. Taylor Jenkins Reid shows us the difference between ambition and obsession through Carrie's determined personality. The book flows amazingly, and the writing style ..read more

Rating: ★★★★ Set in the magical land of Ravka, this series follows Alina Starkov, an ordinary girl whose life is changed forever after she unleashes a power even she did not know of. Her world is turned upside down. She becomes a target, followed by many who are intrigued by her extraordinary abilities, and just as many who want to kill her. But all she really wants to do is make Ravka safe again.  I loved reading this series, and I could not put it down after I picked up the first book. The fast-paced actions propelled me through, and I was hooked from the first chapter. The plo ..read more

Rating: ★★★★ This book follows Richard, a young man who attends a college far away from California, his home, to escape his family. The novel follows him and his classmates, all of whom are eccentric and misfits in their college, and their journey to discover something more than their contemporary society could offer.  I loved reading this book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone over the age of 13. Throughout the novel, many descriptive words helped to create a setting which I was lost in while reading the book. The characters were all described perfectly, and they had un ..read more

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
CHILDREN'S BOOK REVIEWS (YOUNG READERS) by JANYA AGARWAL

Rating: ★★★★★★ This book is about feminism in the 1950s, and it follows a female chemist who struggles for recognition and appreciation for her work due to her gender. Elizabeth Zott starts a cooking show after getting fired from her job, but she inspires millions of "housewives" across California to follow their dreams. I absolutely loved this book as it was so witty, but still managed to entertain the reader despite the serious topics being discussed. Elizabeth Zott's character is defined and down-to-earth, and Bonnie Garmus' style of writing is so unique and interesting that I cou ..read more
