How-To: DIY Hydroboost on GM Vehicles

Hydroboost is a power assist for the braking system that runs off the power steering pump hydraulics. This have several advantages: higher line pressure over a manual setup or vacuum booster, and if running a larger cam which produces less overall vacuum, it simply is a better option to get awesome braking back. Another problem is that complete kits from companies range from from $900-1200! A new GM hydroboost unit runs $200-300, so where is all the extra cost coming from? Turns out the bracket to mount hydroboost to firewall and pushrod are really the only custom “items” needed to successfull ..read more

I’m super excited to put in the time and to learn how to use this machine properly and get GOOD at welding. So in the video above, I quickly unbox, setup, and lay a couple of beads down with the Primeweld TIG225X. HTMR Vapor & Dry Blast Gun

In all the testing I have done, there are only two ways to speed up blasting parts (assuming correct media and pressure for the job): Increase the amount of CFM available. Increase the efficiency of your blast gun. Let’s look at number 1, CFM available. Adding 5, 10, or 15 more CFM will drastically increase blasting speed, but at what cost? That much CFM equates to buying a new compressor with anywhere from 2 to 5 more horsepower! We all know how much compressors cost…thousands of dollars for a good unit! An easier way to solve this problem is just to upgrade to a more efficient blast gun, t ..read more

How-To: DIY Vapor Blaster Build Plans
How-To Motorcycle Repair

A couple of months ago I had some parts vapor blasted for my CB550 bottom end project. The finish vapor blasting produces on aluminum parts is just freaking awesome! It restores them to “like new” that can’t be achieved from any other process. There is just one problem: vapor blasting machines are very EXPENSIVE! The machine used on the CB550 parts costs somewhere in the $25,000 range! I think the least expensive machine on the market costs around $4,000! So I set out to convert my harbor freight dry blast cabinet into a VAPOR BLASTER! Turns out the conversion is not that hard, was fun, and w ..read more

For the past few months, I have been working on my own vapor blast gun design. Some goals were to design a high flow, precision, and efficient blast gun. So if you are interested, you can preorder the gun below. You will NOT be charged a dime until the gun has been produced, and a detailed YouTube video that will follow showing the actual product and performance. There is no risk to you this way and gives me a way to ord ..read more

Chevelle Turbo LS Build

Taking a quick break from working on motorcycles and going to work on a build that I have been wanting to do for over 15 years! So I own a 1970 Chevelle with a small block 350 & TH350 trans, that produces probably 150hp…..not very impressive. Time to change that! So the goal is simple: swap in a new engine/trans combo to give me 500RWHP+, overdrive, A/C, etc… Project Intro Video Junkyard Engine Any Good? Everyone is yanking these out of the junkyard, slapping a turbo on them, and easily making 500+ hp, so why can’t I? I bought a 5.3 out of a 2005 truck with supposedly 140k on it. It als ..read more

How-To: Prevent flash rust on metal parts
How-To Motorcycle Repair

Anytime you get a bare metal surface wet, it will flash rust quickly. Not ideal…..EVER. I’ve ran into some situation where flash rust was just plain annoying: Vapor blasting metal parts (check out my DIY HF plans, and my wood plans) Derusting a motorcycle gas tank Degreasing an engine block after honing, gasket surface prep etc. So the answer is pretty simple: treat the water with a flash rust preventer with a product like Holdtight 102. This product removes contaminates and salts from the water not allowing rust to form. Supposedly protects the surface for 2-4 days. The product is to be mi ..read more

How-To: WOOD DIY Vapor Blaster Plans 42×30

Dude, I just built a BIG vapor blaster out 3 sheets of plywood and some 2×4’s! So, what gave me the idea is all the things we already use wood for in life, and now there are tons of products to make wood waterproof. The goal here is to reduce cost. I built a fully loaded closed loop machine with immersion heater and all for about $3000. A retail machine with the same amount of features will set you back $7500. Does this work as well as the retail machines? YES! If you are looking to build a smaller and less expensive machine, make sure to check out my harbor freight DIY vapor blaster plans ..read more
