So I was craving cupcakes from Ellipsis Bakery and we are currently avoiding ordering anything pre-cooked from outside so that meant me experimenting in the kitchen (again). I am grateful for services like www.theshopofgoodtaste.com for delivering all that I need to whip up restaurant-grade meals at home. So far we have attempted, Red Wine & Mushroom Risotto, Italian Summer Pasta, Cupcakes, Burritos, Burrito Bowls, Quinoa Bowls, Cakes and much more. Tonite we are making Pita Bread and Falafel from scratch but this post is about the delicious cupcakes we made last night. I did not intend t ..read more

Quarantine Cooking: Layered Lasagna

Only in the past few years have I developed an interest in cooking. My mom is a fantastic cook, and I never felt the need to enter the kitchen before I got married. Fortunately for me, my husband is as much of a foodie as I am, and so it gave me a reason to enter the kitchen and experiment with ingredients. After Shloka was born I have had little time to do anything, there have been days when a shower with a hair wash felt like a bonus ( I know all new moms can relate to this). Quarantine in Mumbai and India has ensured everybody has at least some extra time on hand to do things they have ..read more

Feeding Shloka : When to Start Solids.

Okay, this is one of the most debated discussions for new moms across. So I am giving you my opinion, based on things I have read and what we have followed for Shloka. It may be right for most and incorrect for a few but this is what we have done for our LO. We started solids with Shloka when she was a week shy of 6 months. A few of her friends started on complementary foods around 17 weeks or 4 months. I can confidently say not to start before the baby is 4 months. Definitely don’t delay starting the process past 26 weeks or 6 months. There is research stating that the later in this a ..read more

Few things give a mom as much joy as watching their child eat and enjoy nutritious and healthy meals made with love, just for them. As embark on this journey with our little princess, I would love to share our experience and recipes with you all. What started as a purely traditional way of weaning her off, has now become a combination of traditional and baby-led weaning. Our dear friend Aanchal has been very successful in getting her baby Aveer to eat on his own, and under her guidance, we have introduced baby-led weaning for a few meals. Things to remember for every mom – every baby is dif ..read more

Social Distancing is not a new phase in Shloka and my life. We have predominantly been isolated over the past few months since she was born. I was very clear that the first 2 months the baby must wait it out, get her shots and then step out. In the 3rd month, we did travel for a few family weddings and the celebrations for them but apart from that it’s just been a weekly playdate and that’s it. With the rise in numbers for Corona Virus victims, we have become even more careful. Shloka and I have been homebound for the past 10 odd days with minimal guests and visitors. This means a lot of ..read more

Documenting Motherhood

Ok, so. let me be very very honest here – Motherhood is SCARY. I may come across as a calm and composed new mom, who has a sh*t together but every time somebody sneezes around me I skip a heartbeat. I am always fearful of my baby sleeping on her tummy and blocking her nose. I am worried we missed her shots, she’s eaten too little, peed too little, pooped too much, has dry skin, has colic – you get the drift. I’m also worried I won’t live up to being the amazing mom she deserves or not having a game plan in the event that I am not around anymore. Nobody prepares you for this – nobody can ..read more

It’s a beautiful world with a baby in it…

I never ever knew a feeling like this existed. I never knew your heart could beat outside of you and I definitely did not think I could love anybody more than I love myself. Having a baby has completely changed my perspective on life. Going to a mall now is only to shop for her, every waking moment all I can think of is this little angel. I knew motherhood is an uncomparable experience but it can also be a rollercoaster of feelings, emotions and memories. It has been a hetic few months, from an emergency c section, being maidless for the first few weeks to discovering everything about the ..read more

Long overdue I know ! My last post was my hospital bag essentials and while so many new moms have told me that these really helped them I think I need to do a revised post with things I actually used or wish I had carried. We have been blessed with a little angel, we named her Shloka – which means a verse ( referring to verses of the Ramayana) and she is really adorable. While I was all prepped for a natural delivery, an emergency c section derailed my plans to bounce back as soon as possible. It has been 2.5 months now and after very very very trying, tiring and busy days, today is the f ..read more

Pregnancy | The Wait

You waited to find the right partner, get to a point when you want to try to have a baby and then now that you’re pregnant the final wait to welcome the baby can be extremely excruciating. I think the wait is slow, long and painful. It’s slow because you can’t do anything physically to be very honest. The baby will come when he or she must. Long because if like me you sorta wind down your work in preparation of the baby then it can seem like the clock and calendar refuses to tick. Never ever stop working or slow it down unless there is a medical reason to. Work till the day you pop, if yo ..read more
