DLA Piper has trimmed the number of new partners in its latest round – with 63 new partners this year compared to 70 promoted in 2023 and 2022.
Of the newly promoted partners, twenty are women, constituting 32 percent of the total promotions, which aligns with the firm’s aim to achieve a 30 percent female partnership by 2025, a goal that DLA Piper set in 2021 when women comprised 21 percent of the partnership.
The firm wants to increase the female partnership to 40 percvent by 2030 and ensuring that half of all internal partner promotions are awarded to lawyers from underrepresented groups.

Morrison Kent has split into two firms, Wellington-based JB Morrison and Auckland-based Kent Legal, which has yet to have a website in place, suggesting a hurried separation.
JB Morrison has offices in Wellington and Rotorua with 13 partners in Wellington and three in Rotorua. The former office had 12 partners in Wellington.
The former Auckland branch has yet to have a website. The former firm had four Auckland partners.

Latest Report Shows Partner Pay Rates Increase Again
Hard to believe maybe, but law firm partner billing rates are on the increase again – at least in the United States where a new LexisNexis survey reports that billing rates raised by an average of 5.4 percent, which followed a 4.5 percent increase in 2022.
The survey showed that law firms of 750+ lawyers, Biglaw firms in other words, continue domination in share of wallet with a median partner billing rate 61 percent higher than the next tier.
The gap in billing rates between Large Law and other tiers continues to widen, the report says.
