Transcript with links (plus links to items we didn’t cover) to follow: A few things to note — We linked to Amazon because it’s easier for everyone to find, but we highly recommend shopping through your local mom and pop toy and bookstores! We fully support shopping local and sustainable. Also we didn’t give full titles with author names – not because we don’t respect the authors and the great work they do, but just to keep the text more simple. Thanks for understanding. The Key to Helping Clients Let Go
Let Me Organize It

When people hear I’m a professional organizer, they automatically assume I make people get rid of things. On the contrary, if you love it, use it, need it and can justify keeping it, I won’t argue with you. I don’t push people to get rid of things, but I will let them know when I think they have excess of an item, or I’ll ask them what they think and then tell them how I read their answer. For example, sometimes clients make a face which shows to me they don’t want it but there’s guilt behind the decision to let it go: But I paid good money and haven’t used it yet. My Aunt Mildred gave it to ..read more

Top 10 Tips for a Successful Move
Let Me Organize It

Moving and relocating is stressful no matter what time of year it is – or even during a pandemic crisis! I’ve been unable to assist clients in their homes during the shelter in place orders, but I have been able to assist two families that left their homes in mid-March to be with family down in Southern California, meaning I’d be working in a safe environment while providing an essential business (packing services). I’m grateful for the work and for the ability to help these families out. If you are moving soon, you should check out my previous blogs on Packing Tips from the Pros and Unpacking ..read more

Create a Time Capsule with Your Kids!
Let Me Organize It

Though I don’t have any kids of my own (yet), I know kids come with a lot of stuff! Heck, I remember as a kid having a ton of knick-knacks and stuffed animals. Basically, I had a lot of junk! One way my parents helped to keep things under control was to allow me one box where I could keep all the important things or memorabilia: my first watch with Mickey Mouse on it my first pair of purple sunglasses with a white checkered pattern my first blue wallet that I earned from selling chocolate bars my first place ribbon from the school hula hoop challenge These items were all near and dear to my l ..read more

I suppose we are finally living in “virtual reality” although it’s not quite what we had expected, is it?! And if you had never heard of Zoom before the “shelter in place” mandate, you are certainly an expert on it now. Thankfully, I have been a Zoom user for 4-years and am very familiar with how it works. But now I’m overwhelmed with all the virtual offerings, which include, but are not limited to (just the ones I have received emails about): Yoga classes Soul Cycle classes Rumble classes Meditation workshops Anxiety workshops Sound Healing sessions Virtual dance parties Happy hours with coll ..read more

Please Donate Responsibly!
Let Me Organize It

Part of my services as a professional organizer includes taking one carload of donations on behalf of each client to the appropriate places where they will be used or have a chance of being resold. Additionally I have helped clients to post items on Nextdoor that otherwise can’t be donated. I’ve had great success for re-homing the strangest items (old bbq grill; center console in a Honda Odyssey van; breast pumps; cpap machines; etc.) on Nextdoor.com. Unlike most organizers, I don’t just go to one place to drop donations. While I do take the bulk of donations to one place (Saver’s in RWC), I v ..read more

Quick Tip: Set Up a Family Donation Box
Let Me Organize It

Setting Your Kid(s) up for Success: Set up a Family Donation Box This is an easy tip to implement, but that can make a world of difference for your family. A basic organizing principle used by most professional organizers is that everything should have a home — even those “I don’t know where this goes yet” items and especially the items set aside for donation. This is why I highly suggest to my clients to implement a donation box to set their family up for donating success. To pull from the movie Field of Dreams: if you create it, it will get filled! Maybe that’s wishful thinking on my part ..read more

It’s becoming more and more difficult to avoid email phishing scams these days, even for the most tech savvy people. While I don’t consider myself super tech savvy, I know enough to generally keep me safe from malware or dangerous email links, but I have to admit, I’ve almost been duped lately on a few scams in particular. That’s why I felt it would be helpful to share my tips on how to avoid falling victim to an email phishing scam. Here are a few things to check out before clicking any links or downloading any attachments — First, check the email address and suggested links without clicking ..read more

Tips for Organizing Kids Books
Let Me Organize It

There’s nothing I love more than children’s books! I loved them when I was little and I still love them today as an adult. It might also be why I’m working on my own kids book series on organizing (7 manuscripts of 20 titles written – stay tuned for more). I loved going to the library and checking out books as a kid. I loved their smell and the crinkly film used to cover them. And to this day, I love gifting books to kids of all ages, rather than toys or gadgets. There’s nothing like getting lost in a great book, no matter your age! One thing I feel parents can never have enough of are childre ..read more

What I left behind in Bali
Let Me Organize It

One day, the idea of traveling to Bali crept into my conscious and took hold. It may have been in my subconscious for even longer, as I almost felt called to Bali on a spiritual quest. I knew it would likely be a solo trip, but I inquired if any friends wanted to join me. Of course, they said yes at first, but over time they were unable to join for one reason or another. It didn’t bother me so much as I’ve done a lot of solo travel, and this was really about my desire after all. I saved for several years, and then finally decided to plan the trip for December 2019. At first I thought I’d go f ..read more
