Hi, How are you? (or as a friend of mine always asks, how is your heart today?). I recently reopened enrolments to Strategy Masterclass and have made it available as a 10-week course at a lower cost — mainly due to all the requests I've been receiving of late. If you'd like to jump in, the course starts whenever you're ready. I spent last week away with my wife and children. We decided to take five days off to wash some of the year's stresses off at the beach. I find there is nothing more that centres me then mindful time with my family. How about you? It was very welcome and good timing ..read more

The sun is shining in Melbourne. The sky is blue and the warmth of summer is slowly creeping into our everyday. Albeit some parts of this amazing country are suffering from the most catastrophic of fires and my thoughts are with anyone who is going through such horror. I hope you and your loved ones are safe. How was your weekend ? Mine was quiet after a week of four workshops last week which saw me crashing into a very welcome quiet weekend engrossed in a new book I’m currently devouring. In a couple of weeks, I’ll be flying to Athens for a family wedding. I’ll be in town for a week so if ..read more

How are you? It's almost November! The year has flown by once again. I hope you have achieved what you set out to achieve and feel good about where you are and where you're going. I don’t know about you but as the end of the year approaches my mind starts moving towards planning mode for the year next. I start thinking about things to change, improve, reduce, increase. Things I’d like to do, places I’d like to see and achievements I’d like to achieve. It’s also evidenced by the number of emails I receive each week asking me similar questions about decisions to be made. - Which course shou ..read more

How are you? I trust things are well in your world. I’ve had a lot on my plate the last few weeks and have been fighting the overwhelm. What has been challenging you? I’ve also spent a lot of time with my children whilst they’re on school holidays. I'm trying ot keep my fitness/training consistent, my mind centred and calm, and work is work. My focus at work lately is to ensure we have some consistent projects over the coming months. If you know anyone that would like to work with us, reach out. ;-) I'm also trying to engage with Strategy Masterclass students who are running through the co ..read more

It’s the school holidays here in Melbourne, Australia so I’m spending some time with my children, working from home and making sure they’re occupied and interested in more than staring at screens. Work has been the usual roller coaster ride it is, and yet within the ebbs and flows we manage to put together some of our small passion projects. This week we published The Emerging Young Woman, an insights report to help inform strategy and creative initiatives for this new kind of leader. You can access the free report here. Last week a friend of mine asked me, "Jim aren’t you worried what peop ..read more

Business as a force for good

I was interviewed about balancing the grind of work and life this week and it got me thinking about the amount of times I'm asked about becoming a B Corp. I’ve been asked many times why we accredited as a B Corporation. We’ve held the accreditation since 2015. This week alone I was asked the question three times by three different people from three different industries. I was asked how a business like ours is ‘a force for good’ when we aren’t a social enterprise, our profits don’t find their way to communities and we aren’t doing much towards saving the polar ice caps. We donate to a few ..read more

How was your week? Mine? Chaos! My beloved AFL Football team was demolished in the first week of the finals and Greece lost to the USA in the World Cup Basketball. Work is busy. Thankfully. My children are growing up (way too fast) and my wife and I are thinking how we desperately need a family holiday. How about you ? How do you handle creating time to get away and switch off during the year? We're terrible at forward planning these things and always scrambling at the last minute. When I speak to many small-business owners, I hear much the same grievance — we're all busy running our busi ..read more

It was Father's Day in Australia this past weekend — my son kicked a goal in his game of soccer, ran around the field with his hands stretched out airplane-style and the joy on his face was all I could ever ask for. I hope you had a wonderful weekend too. In amongst the client work, my team and I have had fun putting together products and reports this year. We’re distilling insights from our recent mental health survey, writing a few insights/trends reports for clients which we may share publicly, and also nurturing MarchFirst where we share the tools, content, books, podcasts and other reso ..read more

Good strategy, bad strategy

Are you in the midst of change or have you settled into a comfortable rhythm? Are you challenged, or bored? Is the grass greener elsewhere or are you happy ploughing and nurturing the soil that surrounds you? What were you most enthused about when you woke up this morning? What does your average day look like in five years time? These and many more are some of the key questions I ask leaders and their teams when I begin strategy engagements and transformational projects at Tank. They’re not the standard ‘colour-by-numbers’, diagram-filling questions which lead to vanilla ‘human insights’ w ..read more
