Forget HealthRoster, Allocate, WorkJam, NurseWest & Entire HR - uPaged is the only enterprise solution in the world that consolidates healthcare talent from hospitals and nursing agencies in a single ecosystem. Managing workforce in the average 9:00 to 5:00 pm corporate organisation is hard enough, but imagine what it’s like for the nurse in charge of a busy 50-bed intensive care unit that operates 3 full-time shifts around the clock, several shorter permanent part-time roles, and a few job sharers that make up its ~100-person workforce, who work 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. It touched a raw nerve with many ..read more

Kacie Lord, mother of uPaged founder, Zara, started her nursing career when nurse training was hospital-based, ‘Sister’ ruled the ward with an iron will, and her steely glare could leave a young nurse trembling in her crepe-soled shoes. Kacie tells her story of pursuing a career in nursing and the invaluable life lessons she learnt that she has carried with her since. ‘At the age of 15, my social conscience had really kicked in, and it seemed quite normal to me to have long thoughts about going to India to work in the slums, or to Israel to fight for a homeland for the Jewish people … I’m n ..read more

The Changing Face of Agency Nursing

Agency nurses have long been under-represented and under-valued for the contribution they make to Australian healthcare, despite the fact agency nurses are estimated to represent 8% (30,000) of the nursing workforce.  Working casually through an agency is a genuine career option for those who enjoy a challenge and flexibility. Some nurses opt for agency while pursuing portfolio careers, or while they juggle parenthood, travel, study or because they require more flexibility to suit their personal circumstances.  Nurses who choose to work as career casuals are typically armed with unique skill ..read more

Tuesday 10 December marks 12 months to the day that uPaged officially became, well … official. As in, proof of concept was validated, the business plan was finalised along with financial projections, seed funding sourced, the minimum viable product (MVP) was endorsed by an early adopter, the business name was registered, and our very first uPaged nurse completed her very first uPaged shift (amongst the million other things that it takes to get brilliant idea from that lightbulb moment to blast off). It had been an intensive two-year journey to get to that date 12 months ago, punctuated by many ..read more
