Come with me on an adventure. Back in time, to another place, a different space. As we take off, imagine our craft, a P52 Mustang "Diamondback". This happens to be the theme of my most recent commission, one that I completed just before taking off in December and January for sunnier skies. Once again, the curious and beautiful thread of my own story has appeared before me in the form of this commission. Andrew, my client, wanted to give something very unique and unusual to a generous friend who flew Andrew's mother from Michigan to Idaho and back in this plane to visit with Andrew and his fam ..read more

Upon returning to Antigua for a day before going to Lake Atitlan, I was fortunate to visit the cemetery with Denise, her mom, and daughter, to light some candles and remember Carlos, her father, my friend, and the humble Mayan Ajq'ij spiritual guide to many. Carlos is the author of "The Book of Destiny", one that I continue to recommend to anyone interested in an authentic representation of the Mayan world view and spitrtual traditions. The day Tz'ikin was the same as Carlos', his "Mayan Birthday", and a beautiful concordance of time to be able to share in observing the day with Denise and wit ..read more

Magic In the Trees Part 2: Deep Magical Roots in Tikal and Lake Peten Itza

My trip to Guatemala in the first two weeks of June of this year was very special for me. It was my first opportunity to visit the ancient Mayan ruins in Tikal and Lake Peten Itza, home to the Itza people, the last of the Mayan ethnic groups to be conquered by the Spanish. Itza means something like "magic water" and the Itza were know as water wizards who knew the laws of nature and how to use them in "magical" ways" . Sounds like the perfect stop on my next destination of the Pilgrimage to the Sea. The Itza migrated from Chichen Itza and Uxmal in the Yucatan to Peten and established their ci ..read more

Home again. My recent journey to Guatemala has brought be home again, again and again, to a place that will always be "home" to me--Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, back to my home on Lake Payette, Idaho, and ultimately, to my home within myself. I feel a distinct sense of peace, a deep empowerment. The following is the story of this journey, that begins with me at a nice "local" spa in Jocotenango, near Antigua Guatemala, where I began coming five or six years ago for the sauna and consistency good massage at affordable prices. I‘m in “Mundo Natural”. In Spanish that means "Natural World", and apt pl ..read more

I'm enjoying some festive play time here in the winter months, with several new creative works in process. I have a lot more studio time each day, making each morning a joy to discover what Santa's elves have been up to the night before. It does feel magical; how does all this happen? This winter I feel most intensely the love that Mother Earth has for me. I sense her magic in the songs the frozen lake ice creates, the snow piled up like millions of microchips of memories from a far away land and time, in the darkness that incubates, like mother, creating new life, new love, new creation. I fe ..read more

Traveling to Guatemala has always been, for me, a journey to the heart. Like many tourists, ex-pats, and foreigners who call Guatemala home, I go there for the natural beauty, down-to-earth lifestyle, and the people. Its the heart of the place, the heart of the ancient Mayan cultures, and the heart of the people that makes me feel like I've come home every time the wheels hit the tarmac at La Aurora Airport in Guatemala City. My trip included a wonderful commission for a kind Dutch gentleman living in San Marcos la Laguna. Joseph is all about heart. In our first meeting, he spoke of the sense ..read more

After a long dry spell due to covid restrictions , my mosaic career gained new life this fall after I was able to exhibit my work here in McCall, Idaho, where I have been making my home base over the last year and a half. I did not realize how much my creative flow came to a halt during COVID. Ceasing to show my work in person, interrupted the natural creative process. Clearly, a big part of the reason we make visual art is so that people will SEE it!! So, after a year in which I had almost no artistic inspiration. I was pleased when a window of opportunity to show my work came this September ..read more

After a year of illness, death, dislocation, and lots of healing, reconnecting and creating a new home base for myself in Idaho, I recently had the good fortune of a new mosaic commission. What a joyful and welcome relief, for what feels like a new beginning in life. My client came to me through the referral of a previous client (thank you Carol B!). I have been so gifted with such lovely and interesting people to work with in my years doing mosaic. This time was no exception. From the minute we began conversing, I felt a connection with Wilma, and her warm, appreciative tone. Right away she ..read more

Fairies Have Arrived!

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the emergence of the Fairy Slipper orchids that pop up here in May. I haven’t seen any—until today. It’s the only one. I’m afraid it’s too dry. We haven’t had any rain since the snow stopped falling. Drought conditions prevail over the West, and here the snowpack is below normal. I‘ll pray for some rain, for these incredible little sprites who only appear for a few days each year. They are easy to miss, they are so tiny: Can you see that little magenta fleck at center? Their energy, and that of their neighbors—the Trulliums, Huckleberry and Wild Roses—inspires me a ..read more
