Whilst a referral from your GP may be required in some circumstances to see a psychologist or psychiatrist (especially if you are under a Mental Health Care Plan), or any other range of allied health providers, a GP referral is not required to see a counsellor or psychotherapist. Why is a GP referral needed for psychologists and psychiatrists, but not counsellors?
