The most urgent threats now facing the U.S. are America’s porous southern border, nuclear-threshold Iran, and an aggressively expansionist China, according to those answering Coral Ridge Ministries’ 2024 Spiritual State of the Nation Survey. About the Survey An informal survey sent annually to Coral Ridge Ministries supporters, it provides members of the media and elected officials a gauge of the attitudes and opinions of pro-family evangelical Americans. This year’s survey invited respondents to register their level of trust in key American figures. Those answering the survey said they most t ..read more

My mom never uttered empty words — she spoke life and truth everywhere she went. She was a consistent example, full of true wisdom, and had a unique ability to make me smile.  But she could also be…irritably on time…showing up 15 minutes early and then ask me why I was late. Frankly, she didn’t suffer fools very well either, often being impatient when people’s minds didn’t move at the speed of hers. I also always wondered why, with all of her reading and knowledge, her superior intellect, and creative brilliance, she wasn’t as generous as she could have been ..read more

Right Bible – Wrong Gospel?

As I enter my seventeenth year behind the pulpit, I’ve noticed some strange/alien practices that have seeped into the church. When I say alien, I’m not referring to some anorexic like green figure that stepped out of some Disney sci-fi miniseries. Alien to the traditional practices of the Church universally. There are several: fog machines during praise and worship. The decibel level has increased during the time of praise and worship. Songs that focus on the creation (humanity) rather than the Creator. Sermons (not all) are focused on our “goodness” versus our “flaws.” Let’s be transparent wi ..read more

Springtime at Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) is one of my favorite times of the year. As we approach commencement, the campus buzzes with excitement for what’s to come. For many, it’s a quickly approaching summer break. For the 760 eligible graduates in the Class of 2024, it’s the next chapter as they embrace their full potential as new leaders in the workforce or advance their career plans through further studies.    An investment in the future Despite the busyness of the season, I take time to reflect on the past two semesters. Each academic year, our faculty, staff and ..read more

The Good News provides a monthly column with important content having to do with topics from the legal community. This month features a conversation with Marianna Seiler DeJager, director with Tripp Scott. ——————————– Do you own a small business – that is not a sole proprietorship – in Florida or anywhere else in the US (or its territories)? You almost certainly need to know about – and comply with – the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), a new federal law that took effect January 1 of this year, despite a recent successful – but limited – court challenge.   Bill Davell ..read more

“Abraham said to his servants, ‘Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you’” (Genesis 22:5).   If you are familiar with the story of Abraham and Isaac, you will remember that God called Abraham to do the unimaginable . . . the indescribable . . . the inconceivable . . . the unthinkable: To sacrifice his son Isaac on a mountain in Moriah. Blind faith or believe? Here’s a question for you: Did Abraham simply head out and blindly do what God commanded? Not ..read more

What’s your Balance?

Our core expectations for close relationships are affected by all of our previous close relationships, whether with parents, siblings, former spouses, lovers or friends. At certain periods in our life significant people, or even life itself through specific events that affected us, ran up a series of debits or credits in terms of what you needed. Time passes, we walk through life’s revolving door, marry and hand our bill balance over to our spouse. Our spouse gets a credit or a debit for what others did or did not do. Have a Positive Balance If my account has many positive ..read more

Learning How to Make the Right Decisions
Good News
by Dr. Bob Barnes and Torrey Roberts

“But how do you know how to make the right decision?” was the question from a thirteen-year-old boy living at Sheridan House. He had just made yet another bad decision with some friends at school. His consequence was to cut grass that afternoon, rather than play racquetball with the other boys. That was a great question. And that is why we do not only give kids the discipline to follow through with their decisions. We also give them the template for how to make those decisions.   In the past we have discussed the need for parents to make their ..read more

The first eight years of my life I had the privilege of living in many different places, some of them exotic, some beautiful, some cold, some strange, some familiar. Perhaps you had a similar upbringing. I cherish those experiences. One of the places I lived at was a small town in North Carolina called Montreat. Montreat was a great place to grow up as a child because we were able to explore the streams, mountain paths, forests and allow our imagination to run wild in what could easily be the land that time forgot. Additionally, Montreat was the place where ..read more
