Clemson University’s largest college inducted four alumni into the Thomas Green Clemson Academy of Engineers and Scientists and recognized two others as Outstanding Young Alumni during a rooftop gala on May 4 at the Watt Family Innovation Center. The College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences selected Marshall Brown, Harold Gillens, John Witherspoon Gilpin and Jeff Schmersal for membership in the academy, the college’s highest honor. State legislature recognizes Clemson Extension farm and art tour for its impact

The South Carolina House of Representatives has recognized Clemson Cooperative Extension’s Ag + Art Tour as a “national example” of a program that emphasizes agritourism to showcase the state’s farms and farmers. Dil Thavarajah is a researcher who is passionate about combating global obesity and malnutrition. She is following this passion to help Clemson University fulfill its Land-Grant Mission. In recognition of her achievements, Thavarajah has received Clemson’s highest agricultural research award, the 2023 Godley-Snell Award for Excellence in Agricultural Research. Clemson students training to become teachers usually finish out their senior year student teaching in a district close to the University. The College of Education’s many district partnerships in the Upstate make these connections quick and easy, and it makes geographic sense in the busy life of a student teacher to be close to the school in which they are training. Packaging Science graduate finds her industry niche in sustainability

Eliza Basel calls her decision to major in Packaging Science a “happy accident,” but much like her tour of the Clemson University campus when choosing her college, she found it to be a perfect fit. “My mom knew someone whose daughter had gone through the packaging program and had been quite successful. The Clemson University Clemson LIFE program graduated eight students during its recent commencement ceremony, which was held April 29 at NewSpring Church of Clemson. Clemson LIFE is a post-secondary education program for students with intellectual disabilities that prioritizes job skills and independent living.
