Stained Glass Window Project
Ron's Hot Rods

I have sold the 41 Cadillac and the Hudson project cars & needed a new project & decided on a stained glass window for the Caboose.    I start with a picture or an idea in this case it was a picture on a puzzle I have that is just half of the running woman. The sketch or drawing on the left is close to the size and look that I wanted with the rest of her body drawn in, the center is the actual size of the window and the right is the pattern paper that will be glued to the glass. Carbon paper is used to transfer the sketch to the drawing and pattern paper.   I ma ..read more

1964 1/2 Mustang Project

I found a 1964 1\2 Mustang for sale on Craig's list at a reasonable price and decided to go to Lake Havasue to take a look. It turned out to be complete and in good condition, with no rust, for a good restoration car. The VN showed that it was made on April 14 1964 and is #13,223 made out of 92,705 made. This one came with a 3 speed manual transmission but somewhere along its life it got changed out for a automatic, the clutch peddle is still in the car.  The car had been stored for several years and was not running. The interior is in good condition and the body is fairly straight with some ..read more

With the front end of the 41 Cadillac bolted together it was time for the hood.   All of the hood trim brackets and screws were put into the bead blaster to remover the rust.  The side vent grills and top center hood chrome (with the "Flying Goddess") were cleaned up and the rusted screws were drilled out and holes rethreaded. The hood ornament is also the hood latch/opener.  The hood brace was assembled & installed with the hood opening springs. I used the overhead hoist & straps, to get the right angle that matched the support brace, to move the very heavy hood into place and insta ..read more

The front of the 41 Cadillac still needed to be assembled and I started with the front fenders, gravel pans then the grill and bumper. The grill has parking /  turn signal lights in it and the fenders have head lights that need to be repaired then wired in to the 2005 wiring harness.  The parking lights were not into bad of condition at least all the parts were there. They were put in the bead blaster to be cleaned up the housings were painted with the chrome and glass scrubbed clean. the gaskets are destroyed but I will worry about then later.  The light sockets are usable with bead blasting ..read more

Shaved Door Handles

The doors are next on the things left to do on the 4105 Cadillac and the 41 door latches, handles and hardware were not in good condition or missing parts. After trying to fix the original latches (that did not work) I decided to install after market latches.  After doing some research I found made in the USA Bear Claw door latches at Dakota Digital and bought a pair. I need 2 pair but only got one to make sure they would work in the space in the 41 doors.  The drivers door was marked and cut out where the old latch was.  The bare claw latch was tried in the cutout opening, and found that th ..read more

Custom Built Bumper for the 4105

The existing bumper looked out of place at the back of the 41 Cadillac and I decided to modified it to fit in close to the back between the rear fenders. (The picture below is the finished reshaped bumper.) The stock bumper was set in place and as you can see dose not fit the back of the car. It was marked for center and where the first cuts will be made. This is a cut and fit as you go to get the look that I want.  Once the ends were cut off it could be slid under the gravel pan and scribed for the curve of the back of the car.  The top part of the bumper was cut off and I got part of the cu ..read more

Build an Exaust system
Ron's Hot Rods

One of my goals in this 4105 project was to use as many of the 2 parts car parts on the 41 Cadillac without buying new parts. I have most of the exhaust systems from the 05 & 07 along with some other left over parts from other projects, including 2 mufflers, to use for this system. The 05 exhaust (below) was removed as a complete assembly.  There two of all the 2" exhaust parts except the tail pipes and mufflers.  The 05 pipes were held in place as a complete assembly to see where the 41 frame would interfere with it, cut apart for 3 pieces - head pipes, resonator & 2 rear pipes. GET THE 1941 RUNNING
Ron's Hot Rods

Last post I started to install the permanent parts in the 41 Cadillac and have continued to get it running before I start on the body. I started to incorporate an 2007 Cadillac STS into the 41 but as the project progressed the 07 was to badly burned in the rear to be able to use all the parts. I found a 2005 STS salvage car that had been rear ended with rear sheet metal damage but all the rest of the car was in running order. Now I have put all the 2005 parts into the 41. I think that I will call it the 4105.  The car will not run without gas so the first thing was to install a fuel filler. I ..read more
