Visiting Rocky Mountain National Park RMNP
Exploring Coast To Coast

For those that don't hike we would suggest at least 2 days to see this park. One day to drive the Trail Ridge Road and one to visit the rest of the park. We went during a period of Timed Entry where we had to buy a ticket to arrive during a certain time slot for either the Bear Lake Corridor or the rest of the park. This was our first time at the park and we weren't sure how it would really work and if we would get to see much of the park but as it turns out it worked fine and we were still able to see many things during the six days we visited the park. Unfortunately we waited too long to mak ..read more

Raton Pass - Last Cool Air of the Summer
Exploring Coast To Coast

The next day we moved to Raton Pass Campground. YAY! We found one last blast of cool weather here probably only because of the 7,857 ft altitude. We stayed on the upper level in the middle. If the park is full you’ll have a better view if you stay on the outside edge because your view of the mountains won’t be blocked. There used to be a Cafe on the grounds but it is no longer in operation. We loved our stay here. There were SO many hummingbirds here. We also saw a white throated swift feeding babies in a box nest. Also park staff notified us to be careful and not leave out garbage as a bear ..read more

After leaving the Colorado Springs area we moved to the Pueblo KOA. (Note: there is a low tunnel here if you come from a particular direction so be aware of that – contact the KOA for alternate directions). The temperatures have been going up but once here in Pueblo we just knew our cool weather experiences were over for the summer. Not a bad KOA. There’s a pool here partially under a tree so it felt really refreshing. Also on the weekend you can order breakfast and they have an ice cream social when you can purchase a shake. You can also order a pizza. We went to the Pueblo Riverwalk but the ..read more

The Enchanted Circle in New Mexico
Exploring Coast To Coast

Description of a trip that lasted two weeks in the middle of July 2020 (during Covid). The Enchanted Circle consists of the towns of Eagle Nest, Taos, Angel Fire, and Questa. Looking to escape the heat of Texas we headed out in early July toward Eagle Nest, NM. We set up camp at the Golden Eagle Campground in Eagle Nest. This would be our home base for the next two weeks. Day 1 We spent this day settling in and realizing we would be spending most of our time keeping our distance from others since the Governor wanted visitors to quarantine for 14 days. We had already been doing that during our ..read more

From Silt, Colorado we left to go east to the Denver area. A friend had told us that this drive was fine until you take the steep descent down into the Golden area. Being towing newbies we were a little apprehensive but it turned out to be fine. The highest point was about where the Eisenhower Tunnel was (about 1.7 miles long) at about 11,000 ft and we descended down to about 5,300 ft at Englewood at a 6% grade over a distance of 61 miles. The bigger issue was having difficulty finding camping areas between Silt and Golden. There was a place in Idaho Springs but they were full. We’re not yet ..read more

After leaving Junction West RV Park in Grand Junction, CO we moved to the KOA in Silt, CO. We wanted to stay through July 4th but they were full that day so we stayed 3 days, moved to another RV Park and then came back later in the week. We enjoyed the KOA. The first time we stayed on the west side about in the middle. This was a little too far from the WIFI so I worked at a table in the office. There was a pool and a splash pad for the kids. Sunset was beautiful. We tend to stay home on moving day just to chill and get familiar with our surroundings but today we decided to go into Silt and h ..read more

Before leaving the Junction West RV Park in Grand Junction we went to the Lavendar Festival in Palisade and visited Colorado National Monument. We weren't sure what to expect when we went to the Lavendar festival in Palisade. It was a small festival at a park in town but nice. There were many products made from lavendar. I got some knuckle balm which I use on my cuticles and other boo-boos like the wounds on my knees I would get from falling down in the gravel at the RV Parks. We went to the Palisade brewery for lunch. The next day we spent at the Colorado Monument. Here we saw a female dese ..read more

After leaving the Ouray, CO area we moved to Cedar Creek RV Park in Montrose which served as our base camp for the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. . There is a mini-golf course here. Once set up we went to the Horsefly Brewery for lunch. The weather was nice. It felt warm in the sun, yet like someone left the refrigerator door open when the wind blew. We drove through the parks stopping at the overlooks. I hadn’t thought about there being bears in the park but we realized there were when someone told us they had just seen a bear on the trail by the visitor center. Unfortunately we missed it. Ouray - Buried in Snow

Ouray (pronounced You-Ray) is such a cute little town. I visited it 30 some years ago and the only thing I didn't see that I had seen before was a bank from the 1800s. We stayed at Ouray Cabins and RV Park which was right at the edge of town. We were able to walk into town along the river. This park was about $50 a night but it was very clean and convenient and had great WIFI. The owner is an ex-employee of Microsoft and this was some of the best WIFI I had on the trip. We didn't use the bathrooms, shower, or laundry, so can't comment. We went into Ouray and visited Box Canyon Falls. It cost ..read more

Friday we moved to Priest Gulch campground (has a Dolores address) and we loved it. A river runs right through it (I think its the Dolores River) strong flow. Once in the park (you drive down a short hill) we crossed over the river on a narrow bridge. We didn't get a spot on the river but it was the next row over. We were lucky to get a space - they only had 1 or two left. They have swinging chairs/benches you can sit in and listen to the river. They provide wood so you can build a fire. The WIFI didn't work well in the trailer but it was just a short walk to the gazebo (enclosed building) whe ..read more
