RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Quantum computing could lead advances in the fight against corrosion, according to engineers at IBM and Boeing.
“Combining Boeing’s corrosion engineering expertise with IBM’s quantum computing prowess … researchers developed two new techniques to perform quantum simulations of a key step in the corrosion process known as water reduction. And because quantum computation is particularly well-suited to modeling quantum-scale systems, the researchers were able to compute the energies involved in the water reduction reaction much more accurately than a leading classical me ..read more

RALEGH – Researchers at North Carolina State University have discovered a new distinct form of silicon called Q-silicon which, among other interesting properties, is ferromagnetic at room temperature. The findings could lead to advances in quantum computing, including the creation of a spin qubit quantum computer that is based on controlling the spin of an electron.
“The discovery of Q-silicon having robust room temperature ferromagnetism will open a new frontier in atomic-scale, spin-based devices and functional integration with nanoelectronics,” said Jay Narayan, the John C. Fan Family Dist ..read more

CAMBRIDGE, UK – What does good look like? Whether trying to predict World Cup results or assess the relative merits of emerging technologies, establishing a meaningful set of performance benchmarks is crucial but challenging. Using metrics such as expected goals or possession percentages to assess football teams is not particularly accurate, as a series of shock results at this World Cup show.
For nascent technologies such as quantum computing, covered in IDTechEx’s recent report, establ ..read more

IBM Quantum’s mission is to bring useful quantum computing to the world.
Ever since we first put a quantum computer on the cloud back in 2016, we’ve been developing industry-leading hardware, software, and services for our users in order to prepare them for the next wave in computing. But as we’ve been following along our development roadmap, we realized that this year, we’re no longer just preparing. We’re ready to begin realizing the next wave in computation, and with it, useful quantum computing.
