A game that could be best described as not a classic was illuminated just past the hour mark as Idrissa Gana Gueye smote a shot from about 12 yards that nearly broke the net to end the tension and send Goodison into raptures. Three home wins on the bounce, all of them without conceding a goal… ten points from the last possible fifteen on offer… relegation threat all but eradicated… the RS well and truly humbled… April’s not been too bad after all… and you know why? Because the manager and the players lived up to the Spirit of the Blues and remembered, it’s a Grand Old Team to play for. And no ..read more

Goals either side of half time from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin saw Everton thoroughly deserve a memorable victory over their fiercest rivals to all but guarantee Premeir League status and blunt the visitors title aspirations. Throughout the history of the Merseyside Derby there have been many pivotal games, FA Cup games, League Cup Finals, FA Cup Finals where one team has triumphed and the other has lost. Rarely though have there been Derby games such as tonight’s in which a winner would have claims for double celebrations. If Everton overcome the hot favourites Liverpool, t ..read more

An added-on time injury to Beto marred a vital victory for the Blues as long distance strikes from Idrissa Gana Gueye and Dwight McNeil – one on each half – eased their relegation worries, and a clean sheet for the Blues too after a truly brilliant save by Jordan Pickford to deny Wood just before half time. Following the shellacking at Stamford Bridge last Monday evening, today’s game with Nottingham Forest took on even more importance as the Blues endeavour to rescue another season of abject mediocrity from descending into the calamitous ignominy that relegation would represent. The Blues an ..read more

It took Cole Palmer and Chelsea less than half an hour to condemn Everton to yet another defeat as shambolic defending, particularly for the third goal underlined the utter state our beloved club is in. Palmer scored the ‘perfect’ hat-trick – left foot, header and right foot before Jackson rubbed salt into the wounds with a fourth before the interval. And the upshot of this disastrous score line for Everton is that the goal difference they had enjoyed over Nottingham Forest prior to kick off had been completely wiped out… and next up… Forest on Sunday. Setting aside the on-going uncertainty ..read more

Everton Deducted 2 More Points

Everton have been punished with a further two-point deduction for a breach of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR). The deduction drops Everton down to 16th in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone. Everton Statement In January 2024, Everton were charged by the Premier League for breaching the permitted Profit and Sustainability thresholds for the assessment period ending 2022/23. The matter was referred to a Premier League Commission, which has today announced Everton will receive an immediate two-point deduction. While the ..read more

Everton won a poor game of football with a freaky goal deep into added-on time at the end of the first half as Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it two goals in two games demonstrating application and persistence to block a clearance back of the keeper into the empty net. After the deserved point from the game at St.James’s Park, the Blues returned to the Grand Old Lady to go in search of a Premier League double over Burnley. Having won at Turf Moor in mid-December, a win that was the fourth on the trot and a fourth clean sheet, Evertonians were perhaps a tad premature in thinking the club were capa ..read more

A disaster for Seamus Coleman as he inadvertently deflected a long throw-in into his own goal cost the Blues a point, barely two minutes after Beto had pounced to score from close range after Bournemouth keeper Neto spilled an innocuous cross. These are the games Everton need to find a way to win and somehow, even after a training break in Portugal, they failed miserably to create enough openings and true chances. It’s been twenty-one days since the Blues last kicked a ball in Premier League anger, a game that saw them fall to a two-penalty defeat at Manchester United. Since then, the first t ..read more

Evertons’ failure to convert chances into goals cost them dearly as poor challenges on Garnacho by both James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey gifted the home side two first half penalties, converted by Fernandes and Rashford. As an Evertonian born and bred in Salford, for me there is no better place to record an away victory than Old Trafford however, particularly since the inception of the Premier League, it has been a very unhappy hunting ground for Blues of our persuasion. The Manchester club have stuttered throughout the season, at times looking like they could again become a serious force to b ..read more

Tomas Soucek struck a hammer (pardon the pun) blow to the hearts of Everton and their supporters with an injury time winner and Alvarez added an insurance third to complete another miserable home afternoon for Everton. Kurt Zouma had seen his header cancel out the opener from Beto who’d seen a first half penalty saved by Areola, before redeeming himself with a second half header that the Blues failed to capitalise upon. Having had the unjust ten-point deduction reduced to six on appeal, Everton went into the game against West Ham two places above the bottom three but, still needing to pr ..read more
